About Mangawhai:

Mangawhai is a charming seaside resort 80 minutes north of Auckland. The appeal is the white sandy beaches (5 within 15 minutes drive), sub tropical climate, beautiful walkways, and numerous water activities. The 18 hole all weather Golf Course brings a regular flow of visitors and there is a growing number of cafes at the two shopping centres.

Charter boats offer fishing, diving and coastal sight seeing trips around the upper islands of the Hauraki Gulf and Bream Bay.

Mangawhai was settled in the 19th century and once boasted a busy harbour, boat building industry and a thriving Kauri gum trade. Whilst this trade has ceased much of the colonial charm remains, the area has a permanent population of 1200 people hidden away in its environs.

Mangawhai Lodge provides a good base to explore the treasures of the north, including:

  • Surf beaches, a sheltered harbour (300 metres)
  • Donkey farm visit, worm farm, water gardens
  • The world renowned Bellevue Gardens, (10 minute drive)
  • The award winning Naja Garden Centre (opposite)
  • Pioneering museum and bonsai garden, pottery gallery
  • 18 hole golf course and bowling greens (opposite)
  • Horse treks, fishing charters, diving, bird sanctuary
  • Waipua Kauri Forest

  • 10 walkways, The Tomarata Lakes, (5 - 10 minutes)
  • Goat Island Marine Park (45 minutes) and Warkworth (40 minutes)
