Lazy Cloud Bed and Breakfast Rooms:
The Brandner Suite:
The Brandner Suite is decorated like an English Country Cottage. It
is done in dark blue carpeting and whitewashed walls stenciled with
brick and ivy.
The double whirlpool is in the sitting room and has a matching
fieldstone surround. A three tiered fountain is built into the stone
at the end of the whirlpool.
The bedroom features a canopied bed. Inside the canopy, white
miniature lights wound amongst white silk wisteria blooms create a
magical spell. The quilt on the bed is done in blues, creams and
yellows.
The fieldstone fireplace is in the wall that separates the bedroom
from the sitting room and can be viewed from both rooms. The sitting
room has a dining table for two and the daybed with lots of pillows
overlooking our English perennial garden.
The Enchanted Treehouse:
The Enchanted Treehouse is the only suite that you can enter from
the lodge, as well as a private outside entrance. There are two big
advantages to that. One, you don't to go outside to have breakfast on
cold or rainy days. Two, if you do want to watch TV, all you have to
do is go downstairs.
The Enchanted Treehouse is also our only two story suite. Your
shower is on the first floor, then you go up a private staircase to
your room. (It is totally private - you can go to the shower in your
pj's and no one knows!) There is a half bath on the second floor.
The Enchanted Treehouse was so named because the staircase winds
around a large pine tree. It also has a private deck that's great for
stargazing.
It also has a private deck that's great for stargazing.
A double whirlpool sits just to your right as you walk through the
doorway. The queen size bed has a quilt done in shades of green with
burgundy. Birdhouses, watering cans and baskets decorate the suite.
Honeysuckle vine with wisteria flowers and miniature white lights are
on the ceiling above the bed and sitting area. A dining area for two
is by the windows that overlook the grounds. To the left of the
fireplace, is a double recliner love seat.
The Gazebo Suite:
The Gazebo Suite is decorated in an outdoor theme. The bedroom is
painted to give the feeling of being on a porch. Baskets of hanging
flowers are painted to look like they are hanging from fretwork. Two
kittens are sitting on the porch railing. Butterflies, bumble bees and
ladybugs hover near the flowers. A bird bath fountain with a lady
holding roses completes the room. The water cascades softly from the
top rose into the bird bath.
The bed has a country quilt done in several shades of green and
accented in rose. Two of the walls in the bedroom are finished in pine
and the ceiling is done in beadboard.
The sitting room features a spectacular whirlpool area. The
whirlpool sets on a eight sided platform. The back five sides are
floor to ceiling mirrors and the front three sides are three steps up
into the whirlpool. The large candlesticks reflect endlessly into the
surrounding mirrors.
While soaking in the tub, you can enjoy the soft glow of the
fireplace and a dining area for two makes a great place to enjoy
breakfast.
The sitting room has a daybed with lots of pillows for lounging
with a view of the fireplace. This two room suite is done in dark
green carpeting.
The Hayloft Suite:
The Hayloft Suite is named because this was the original hayloft
when the building was created as a polo lodge (Lodge History) in the
1920's. You enter this suite on the first floor and immediately walk
up the stairs to the second floor where the entire suite is located.
As you walk up the open staircase, you read "Grow old along with
me, the best is yet to be" stenciled on the front of the steps.
The wide pine flooring used in the original hayloft is in the sitting
area at the top of the stairs. There is a fieldstone fireplace and a
whirlpool for two with a matching fieldstone surround.
A double reclining love seat done in dark green leather is a great
place to relax. The fireplace can viewed from anywhere in the room as
the suite is one large room. Old fashioned tin advertising signs
decorate the suite.
The bedroom is done with dark green carpeting and the queen size
bed has a quilt done in dark green, lilac and cream. An old trunk that
was brought back from Germany stands in the corner. There is also a
dining area for two overlooking our picturesque grounds.
Log Cabin Suite:
As you walk through the doorway you'll actually feel as though
you're entering a Log Cabin. The suite has hardwood floors, and logs
on the ceiling and walls. It is decorated in a primitive country style
with antiques scattered throughout. There is a large floor to ceiling
brick fireplace at one end of the living room with the whirlpool
located at the other end.
A double reclining leather couch is a nice place to lounge while
enjoying the fireplace. We have an antique trunk for a coffee table.
Above the double whirlpool, grapevines are wound on the ceiling
with miniature white lights and bittersweet intermingled for a soft
glow.
The colors in the bedroom are done in soft roses and greens. A
fishnet canopy surrounds the bed and adds to the romantic atmosphere.
The Northwoods Suite:
The Northwoods Suite is decorated with logs and stone that reminds
you of a cabin up north. Logs cover one wall in the sitting room and
one wall in the bedroom. Both rooms are carpeted in a chocolate brown
plush. A large fieldstone fireplace separates the two rooms with a
pair of old cross-country skis with leather straps leaning in the
corner.
In the bedroom, an oversize cannonball headboard dominates the bed.
The quilt on the bed is done in deep burgundy, tan, and cream.
Above the double whirlpool, miniature lights and ivy wind through
lattice work. Also a tan leather love seat has a stack of suitcases
next to it for an end table. Evergreen boughs and pine cones are
stencil on the creamy beige walls.
The curtains are beige scarves draped around tree branches. An
antique sled leans against the fireplace. The fireplace mantel is
decorated with a duck decoy and old antique lantern. A dining table
for two by the window overlooks our gardens.
The bathroom is really unique - all done in logs and it has a
fieldstone shower!
Paul Newman Suite:
This room is named the Paul Newman Suite because he stayed here
while he was doing summer stock at the Belfry Theater in 1950. We
don't know which room he stayed in, but we decided one of rooms should
be named after him!
The room is designed to look like stables inside, since it was
originally used as stables. Wide pine boards cover the walls and
ceiling and the floor is done in hunter green carpeting. This couple
is enjoying cuddling up on the daybed in front the awesome fireplace.
The fireplace is a twelve foot wall of split fieldstone.
The canopy bed was handmade from 4x4 boards and the beautiful bed
linens and the canopy are done in a lavender floral pattern.
A dining area for two sits just to the left of the double
whirlpool. It's a great place to enjoy your breakfast in the morning.
Tiffany Garden Suite:
Since our last name is Tiffany, we decided to have one room named
after us as our signature room. The Tiffany Garden Suite is decorated
to look like a garden with lilacs, sweet peas and pansies scattered
throughout the suite. When you're sick of winter and snow, you'll
absolutely love this room! It is carpeted in hunter green carpeting
and has an abundance of stenciling.
The sitting room and the bedroom are divided by a see-thru
fieldstone fireplace so you can see the fireplace from anywhere in the
suite.
This is a second floor suite so sunshine streams through the many
windows. The view from the sitting room is a meadow with an apple
orchard. The window shades throughout the whole suite are stenciled
with pansies. And no garden is complete without a bunny, of which
there are several in the room. Packets of seed flowers are found in
many different places in the suite including all the light switch
plates. A white wicker daybed is completed with a purple gingham
comforter for lounging. The dining area overlooks the meadow and also
is done in white wicker.
In the bedroom, the headboard of the queen size bed is now a picket
fence. Forming an arch over the bed is latticework coming out eight
inches from the wall. It is filled with miniature white lights, lilacs
and ivy. Latticework is stenciled on the wall behind the bed with
stenciled sweet peas climbing the lattice. A large birdhouse with ivy
climbing it, is painted on one of the walls. Outdoor garden light are
used throughout the suite for soft lighting. This is truly a garden
Suite!
Beachcomber's Room:
The Beachcomber is one of our two rooms, which means it is not as
large as our suites. It does have all the same amenities as our suites
except that it is smaller. This room is done with hardwood floors and
cream colored walls. The corner fireplace is done in Wisconsin
limestone.
The fireplace continues the French county theme of the room.
Because the fireplace was placed in the corner, it can be seen from
anywhere in the room.
The double whirlpool has navy blue tile around it and mirrors on
the walls. Seashells and sailboats are scattered throughout the room.
The navy blue leather loveseat is also a double recliner.
The queen size bed has a pale blue comforter with flowers. There is
a canopy above about a third of the bed (above the pillows). Inside
the canopy, miniature white lights are on the ceiling covered with
blue fabric - so when you turn on the lights, the stars come out!
Vintage Lace Room:
The Vintage Lace room is one of our two rooms, which means it is
not as large as our suites. It does have all the same amenities as our
suites except the dining area. The room is done in hunter green
carpeting with antique white walls. A dark green love seat sets
between the whirlpool and the fireplace.
A queen size bed is across from the love seat. The bedspread looks
like lace with roses laying on it. On either side of the bed is an
armoire. One of them is set up as a closet with drawers. The other one
has the refrigerator and microwave in it. The room has little
Victorian touches scattered throughout.
The fireplace has hunter green tile with rose decorator tiles
accenting it. The tile is also on the front of the whirlpool.
Lazy Cloud Inn Rooms:
Dreamcatcher Suite:
Golden oak logs make the Dreamcatcher Suite glow with warmth of an
elegant log cabin. The spacious suite is decorated with the colors of
Mother Nature - greens, browns, tans and accents of mulberry.
A mulberry and green quilt grace the king size bed which has a
canopy of branches with mini white lights and evergreens wound through
it. Plush hunter green carpet covers the floor. There are sliding
glass patio doors in the bedroom and the sitting room with great views
of the woods.
The fieldstone corner fireplace can be viewed from the bed, the
couch and the whirlpool. The couch is done in dark green leather and
reclines at both ends. In front of the couch is an entertainment
center decorated with birdhouses, duck decoys and old books. Above the
couch and double whirlpool, a cozy canopy of mini white lights and
evergreens adorn old, wooden window frames. A pub style table and
chairs provide a great place to sit and talk as you enjoy breakfast in
the morning.
The private 10 foot by 30 foot deck is a great place to enjoy the
outdoors.
Starry Night Suite:
The Starry Night Suite is done in a wonderful combination of rustic
and elegance... and in Carol's favorite color, purple! The suite has
dark purple carpeting and the bed has a beautiful poof quilt in black
velvet, dark purple, lilac and purple pansies. Inside the canopy of
the king size bed, stars have been painted on a background of dark
purple and black sky. The stars were done in luminous paint that glow
when you turn on the black lights hidden in the canopy. The same
canopy treatment was done above the couch and the whirlpool.
The fireplace stone is a beautiful, split-faced granite in shades
or purple and soft rose. The unique mantle is half of a log taken out
of our back woods.
The fireplace can be easily seen from anywhere in the suite. A
soft, black leather couch has a recliner at each end for your comfort.
The whirlpool is for two people and is located close to the fireplace.
The deck is a romantic place to enjoy those "Starry
Nights!"
Moonlight and Roses Suite:
The Moonlight and Roses Suite is a unique combination of a rustic
log cabin with the enchantment of a rose garden. The walls are a log
cabin style with a wood bead board ceiling and hunter green carpeting.
The bed is dressed in a poof patchwork quilt with rose and sage green
being the main colors.
Underneath the canopy of the king size bed, ivy and cream roses
are intertwined with mini white lights, creating a magical spell. The
rose garden theme is continued in the canopy above the couch and
whirlpool. The eye catching headboard, the vanity and the night tables
were all brought back from Mexico by Keith and Carol. The black
wrought iron and the rustic wood are a marvelous complement to the log
cabin look of the suite.
An unusual dining table opens up to display hand-painted tiles. It
is a wonderful place to enjoy breakfast in the morning as you gaze
through the patio doors overlooking our three acres of woods. The
double reclining green leather couch and double whirlpool both have
good views of the fieldstone fireplace.
A large private deck is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a
beautiful day!
Blue Moon Suite:
The Blue Moon Suite has the feel of an old cabin from the early
1800's. We made canopies above the bed, the whirlpool, the couch and
the patio doors that look like old tin roofs with moss growing on
them. Taking slices of logs from our woods, we cemented them into the
walls in many different areas making this one of our most unusual
suites. The fireplace is done in River Rock with a hand split mantle
made from a downed tree in our woods.
The rest of the walls and the ceiling have pine boards and the
carpet is navy blue. Inside the canopy of the bed is navy blue
material but when you turn on the lights, the stars come out! You'll
feel like you're sleeping in the great outdoors. The quilt on the bed
is done with a wedding ring design in shades of white, reds, yellows,
blues and greens with a rustic hand carved headboard.
You can also enjoy the canopy of stars while soaking in the
whirlpool for two and relaxing in the double reclining blue leather
couch. The fieldstone fireplace has a half log mantle, made from a log
we found in the woods - something else you might find in a log cabin
from the early 1800's. We even have an outhouse with a half moon; but
this one is used as a closet!
Two sets of patio doors give you access to a large private deck.
This is a great place to enjoy breakfast in the morning or have a
midnight snack on a moonlit night!
Heavenly Night Suite:
The Heavenly Night Suite is decorated with a rustic garden theme in
greens, purples and splashes of pink. The walls and ceiling have pine
boards which are accented with 4" by 4" dark stained beams
reminding you of the walls of an old cabin. The garden theme evolves
as you notice that flowers are everywhere! Even the quilt on the bed
is a flower garden.
The canopy above the bed looks like the shake shingle roof of a
cabin on the outside. On the inside of the canopy, a garden of lilacs,
roses, ivy and mini white lights decorate a wood lattice frame.
The garden canopy is continued above the whirlpool for two and the
couch. Because this suite is located at the end of the building, it
has an extra window and is filled with light. The double reclining
green leather couch is a great place to relax and check out the
birdhouses that are scattered throughout the suite.
The fireplace stone is beautiful shades of rose and lavender in a
split faced granite. The fireplace can be seen from almost any area of
the suite including the double whirlpool tub.
Views out the two patio doors bring the outside woods to the edge
of your garden. This large private deck is surrounded by woods. It's a
great place to catch glimpses of the wildlife and gaze into the
"Heavenly Nights!"
Mossy Glen Suite:
The Mossy Glen is done in colors of the forest with many shades of
green. Log siding covers most of the walls, and small sections have
been done with a unique wall texture and finished with multiple layers
of mossy green glazes. Hunter green carpet, a sage green comforter
with pale pink roses and other rustic accents finish the room.
The double whirlpool tub is surrounded with beautiful pine log
walls. The water spout is made from a cast iron well pump which really
brings the feel of the outdoors in to you. From the whirlpool, you
will have a wonderful view of the stone fireplace.
A king size bed is adorned with a canopy of ivy and white mini
lights that create a romantic ambiance. The handmade headboard was
found in Mexico on one of our shopping adventures. It consists of one
inch pieces of wood put together to make a basket weave design.
Complete privacy is afforded with blinds, curtains and beautifully
stenciled shutters. The wooden stenciled armoire is just another
example of the charm that was built into this room.
The fieldstone fireplace has a dramatic mantel which was made from
a downed tree we found in our woods. It is just gorgeous! Also in the
sitting area there is green leather reclining love seat and a unique
coffee table that changes with a fingertip touch into a dining table.
Next to the love seat are sliding glass doors which lead out to your
large private deck. The deck is a great place to enjoy the outdoors
with a breathtaking view of the woods. A patio table and chairs are
provided so you can enjoy a romantic moonlit night.
Stone Grotto Suite:
In the Stone Grotto, purple and gray split fieldstone enhance the
fireplace and whirlpool area. The eye-catching stone arch which frames
the entrance to the whirlpool is reflected in the oval mirror on the
back wall, giving it a romantic glow.
The king size bed is adorned with a carved wood headboard. The
overhead canopy is intertwined with ivy, purple grapes and mini white
lights. The bed quilt has a charming lavender and white gingham
pattern with purple roses and ivy. The private bathroom is done in
shades of purples with a clever decoupage wall covered with old
postcards and flowers. There is a double Dutch wooden door (Mr. Ed
style!) to provide privacy.
The fieldstone fireplace, which can be viewed from any angle in the
room, has an extraordinary curved handmade mantel. The mantel was made
from one of the downed trees in the woods behind Lazy Cloud Inn.
A black leather love seat provides a comfortable place to sit and
watch the fireplace.
Brookside Suite:
The Brookside Suite catches your eye with its unique double
whirlpool area decorated to resemble a Victorian porch. The hand
painted fretwork complements your suite, along with an overhead
trellis with ivy and white mini lights. A lovely rose stained glass
"window" behind the whirlpool is back lit to give it a soft,
subtle glow.
An impressive corner fieldstone fireplace has a half-log mantel
created from a fallen black walnut tree from the woods in back of the
Inn. The cozy green leather reclining love seat provides a romantic
view of the whirlpool and fireplace; the coffee table in front of the
love seat converts to a dining table with just a touch of the
fingertip.
You can also enjoy the fireplace from the queen size bed that is
dressed in a quilt of roses and ivy to complement the rich hunter
green carpeting. The picket fence headboard continues the outdoor
garden theme of the room.
The private bathroom is stenciled with a stone wall and garden
accents. Upon closer inspection, you'll find lady bugs, honey bees,
and grasshoppers also enjoying the stone wall. Peek around the corner,
and a cute little bunny with a whimsical look appears. The private
cobblestone patio just outside your door includes a table and chairs
and provides a beautiful view of the flower gardens and fountain in
the summer.
This suite was designed to accommodate guests with disabilities. It
is on the lower level; no steps are involved, and the bathroom is
large enough to accommodate a wheelchair.
Rendezvous Suite:
The Rendezvous is probably our most unusual room and is done in a
rustic French country look. The walls are used cream city brick in a
random pattern. The bricks on the walls are placed in such a manner
that there are very few straight lines. The bricks go up and down,
sideways and even curved with unusual pieces of wood and timbers
placed in an unexpected pattern. They are highlighted by wood timbers
on the walls as well as on the ceiling. The colors throughout are done
in the French county look of deep reds, golden tans and various shades
of blues.
The whirlpool is surrounded with mirrors on two sides and dark
brown timbers form a canopy over it. The mini white lights and greens
over the whirlpool create a tranquil atmosphere for you to relax and
enjoy your surroundings. The unusual pump used to fill the whirlpool
is handmade from two logs found in our woods.
The fireplace continues the French county theme of the room.
Because the fireplace was placed in the corner, it can be seen from
anywhere in the room.
The bed has a country quilt which is done with dark reds, navy
blues and light tans. The wooden headboard of the bed is built right
into the wall. A navy blue leather reclining love seat is a comfy
place to sit and enjoy the fireplace. The coffee table that sits in
front of the couch changes into a dining table with an easy touch.
Just outside your door is a private cobblestone patio area with
dining table and two chairs that will have a great view of the flower
gardens and the fountain in the summer.
Gardens:
Lazy Cloud Lodge is located on three picturesque acres.
There is a large English Cottage Garden which blooms with many
different kinds of perennials.
In the spring more than two thousand tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and
crocus bulbs are flowering on our grounds beckoning hummingbirds and
other beautiful songbirds.
Set in the middle of the garden is a gazebo, where you can sit and
enjoy our grounds, a beautiful sunset, or just sip a glass of wine and
talk to each other without interruptions.
You can hear the crickets chirping as the evening draws near and you
reflect on your day and the anticipation of the upcoming evening.
We have a cobblestone patio just outside the lodge so you are able to
enjoy breakfast outside if the weather is nice.
Several double hammocks and benches have been placed throughout the
grounds so you may lay back and relax and watch the world go by. It's
also a great place to star gaze at night. A croquet court is set up for
those who wish to play a rousing game of croquet with their partner.
A lawn checkers set is also set up in one corner of our yard.
History:
The Lazy Cloud Lodge building has a great deal of a history behind
it. It was built in the early 1920's as polo lodge for the Uihlein
Family. They owned the Chicago Branch of Schlitz Brewery Company. The
Uihlein's had about 88 acres in the Lake Geneva area at the time. Some
of the rooms were stables for the horses, some of them stored grain. In
fact, the Hayloft Suite was actually a hayloft in itself.
The lodge is a "Cape Cod" style building. In fact, the
first time you see it from the road it will appear small from the front,
but the Uihlein's built it to face the polo fields and not the road
itself.
The Paul Newman Suite is named that because in 1950, the actor Paul
Newman had stayed here at one time!! Early in Newman's acting career, he
played at the Summer Stock at the Belfry Theater in Williams Bay,
Wisconsin. From what we gathered at the time, Paul Newman was poor and
mowed the lawn in exchange for rent. Unfortunately, he hasn't been back
to mow the lawn since!
Additionally, there has been another famous person who has stayed
here, J.D. Salinger. He stayed in the Log Cabin Suite for one entire
summer while he was writing the book "Catcher In The Rye".

Old World Wisconsin:
Any day of the spring, summer, and fall - only thirty-five miles
from Milwaukee - expect to find yourself immersed in historical scenes
of farm and village life re-created by real-life characters out of the
past. Farmers still ply fields with antique farm implements lugged by
teams of oxen and horses. Women and children work side-by-side on
chores that change with the season - from planting gardens in the
spring to stocking larders in the fall. Farmsteads and settlements
representing German, Finnish, Norwegian, Danish, Polish, Yankee, and
African-American pioneers dot nearly 600 acres of rolling, wooded
hills as unspoiled as the land that greeted the first settlers. And an
1870s crossroads village tells the story of small-town life in
America's Heartland. Come discover a place where history truly lives
and breathes. Come home to Old World Wisconsin.
Webster House:
Nestled on a quiet street in the city of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, the
Webster House Museum is a well maintained white clapboard house. The
composer Joseph P. Webster once owned the home. Both the structure and
its famous owner played an important part of the history of Elkhorn.
According to museum records, the Greek-revival style cottage was
constructed in 1836 and was originally located in Elkhorn's public
square, now known as courthouse square. The building served as the
federal land grant office, selling land to Walworth County pioneers
before Wisconsin became a state in 1848. The building originally
measured 18 by 22 feet and was only one story. The land office was
abandoned in 1840 and later moved to its present site at the corner of
Rockwell and Washington Streets by LeGrand Rockwell, one of Elkhorn's
first settlers.
