If you feel like venturing out, we can direct you to
many places of interest to visit on the picturesque Whidbey Island.
Langley, only 2 miles from Villa Isola (easy cycling
distance) is definitely worth a visit. Perched on a bluff overlooking
Saratoga Passage it has a breathtaking view of Camano Island, Mount
Baker and the Cascade Mountains. Langley also has a wonderful collection
of shops offering antiques, clothing, collectibles and jewelry as well
as local Fine Art. Dining out is always a pleasure since Whidbey Island
offers many great restaurants and cafés, some located in Langley
itself.
Other popular destinations on Whidbey Island include:
Fort Casey State park, Penn Cove, Deception Pass State Park and Mt. Erie
which is great for hiking.
With all this going on you'll never be short of things
to do at Villa Isola. On the other hand, don't forget the Italian
expression "Dolce far' niente," sometimes it's sweet to do
nothing at all!
The Garden:
Your stay at Villa Isola will find you completely
surrounded by nature. On the estate itself, there are 3.5 acres of
beautifully landscaped terrain, including 260 Coastal Rhododendrons -
state flower of the State of Washington - which burst into bloom every
spring.
You can take your breakfast or just relax anytime on the
spacious deck, and within eyesight will be wildflowers and a
mini-orchard of fruit trees. For those who wish to be a little more
active, there are horseshoes, croquet and Bocce (Italian Lawn Bowling)
available.
Bicyclists will be happy to note that there are secure
facilities for their bicycles, and for those arriving by car, there are
several "house bikes" for use of the guests. Many scenic
locations on Whidbey are within comfortable pedaling distance.
On the north side of the grounds, you'll be able to
stroll through a large herb and vegetable garden with strawberries and
raspberries in abundance. Chances are you'll get to taste many of the
items harvested here in one of the breakfasts or desserts during your
stay. Finally, when sleepiness overcomes you, there's always a chaise
lounge or a hammock under the fruit trees for that recuperative
afternoon snooze.
