Welcome to a unique landscape of pristine wilderness beauty situated
in the Appalachian Mountains of northeastern Tennessee. Sugar Hollow
provides elegant, yet reasonable accommodations for individuals and
groups in an exceptional natural environment.
Sugar Hollow Retreat's location is ideal. It is only a short drive to
the eclectic mountain towns of Banner Elk, NC, Johnson City, TN and
Boone NC, yet we are uniquely positioned for privacy and peacefulness.
Once you are here, you will see why we say "Nature's Haven".
The retreat's 300 acres are home to a great variety of flora and
fauna. As the seasons change, the landscape transforms, but always
remains naturally beautiful. No matter when you visit us, serenity and
charming surroundings will be waiting for you.
An ancient river road, cut through Sugar Hollow in centuries past,
descends slowly amidst high stone cliffs to the picturesque Elk River.
Six miles of hiking trails on the property offer exquisite opportunities
for getting close to nature. Along these trails you can expect to
experience many stunning views and sites worthy of photography,
sketching, or simple reflection.
Two restaurants are part of the Lodge for on-site dining and
relaxing. Decks and gardens offer convenient tranquility.
The Lodge is a perfect getaway for writers, artists, naturalists or
anyone who wants to experience natures beauty and sanctuary.
When the Lodge is full, or as a group rental choice, additional
accommodations are available at the Chestnut Farm House. It is located
approximately ¼ mile from the Lodge.
Our Philosophy:

reasonably priced elegant and modern accommodations. To conduct
extraordinary guest/visitor relations. To maintain ultimate standards of
operations. To conserve and protect our natural grounds and environment.
Lodge Accommodation:

rates differ per season and are subject to specific requirements. Please
call or email us if you are interested in this option.

To the left of the lobby is the Elk River Dining Room. Here guests
can enjoy a full country breakfast. Boxed lunches are also available by
request, which guests can take to picnic on the grounds of the retreat.
Also, should guests want to venture out, they can visit nearby
Shirley's Restaurant or Cherry Hill Restaurant. These offer reasonably
priced menus featuring authentic southern cuisine.
Next door to the dining room of The Lodge, guests will find the Black
Bear Cafe. In this relaxed atmosphere, we offer a wide variety of
coffees and beer. Cable television is also available in the cafe for
guest entertainment. Carter County is a dry county, so while beer is
available, wine and stronger libations are not.
