Indulge in the easy Southern charm of Tryon, NC and behold the splendor of the Blue Ridge Mountains while surrounded in the warmth, hospitality and historic charm of the Pine Crest Inn and Restaurant.

The Pine Crest Inn was constructed in 1906, and has welcomed guests since equestrian Carter Brown converted it to an inn in 1917. It was added to the the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Today, the Inn features 35 comfortable guest rooms; four in the main Pine Crest Lodge and the remainder in ten outlying cottages. Original buildings, including a 240 year old log cabin, a woodcutter cottage, and a stone cottage, add to its charms.

Reminiscent of an English country inn, the Pine Crest's comforts include supple leather chairs, richly upholstered furnishings, lovely stone fireplaces and natural hardwood floors. Each of our guest rooms has private bath, telephone, television and VCR, and many rooms feature sitting rooms, fireplaces, and whirlpool baths. The Inn also offers an extensive library of books and videotapes to peruse at your leisure.

The culinary team at our Four Diamond Restaurant caters to your group's schedule and dining needs. Fresh flowers, candlelight, and a crackling fire complete the English Tavern setting and enhance your dining enjoyment. Our Executive Chef prepares inspired cuisine from the freshest ingredients; a feast for both the eye and palate. Our award winning wine collection offers a variety of select vintages to perfectly compliment your meal.

The Pine Crest Inn's gracious accommodations and impeccable service unite to form a backdrop of relaxed refinement, perfect for romantic getaways, weddings, receptions, honeymoons or group meetings and events. Each of our 35 guest rooms, suites, and private cottages is individually decorated, most with fireplaces and all with private baths. Spa service and pet friendly units are available.

Our up-to-date conference center is the perfect location for corporate meetings and retreats. The Inn and restaurant are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and each carries the prestigious AAA Four Diamond Award.

Accommodation:

Pine Crest Lodge:

Lush trees and flowering beds of roses, pansies and rhododendrons border the Pine Crest Inn's main building. In addition to our lobby, bar, and Traces at Pine Crest restaurant, the Pine Crest Lodge houses four guest rooms and suites on its second level. The Lodge's covered front porch features a spectacular view of the gazebo and gardens, and offers rocking chairs for your leisure enjoyment. Tiny white lights illuminate the massive stone veranda after sunset, and the view overlooking Stone Cottage provides a lovely location for dinner in spring and summer.

The Gate House:

The Gate House, located near the main entrance of the Pine Crest Inn, is home to four guest rooms and suites. It is nestled amongst rambling ivy and features a cozy patio and a large private deck fringed by dogwoods and mimosas.

Swayback Cottage:

More than 240 years old, the Swayback Cabin was constructed in Tennessee and transported to its current location some time later. It is the oldest structure at the Pine Crest Inn, and once served as a temporary home for The Great Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerald and a vacation retreat for Ernest Hemingway. Swayback features a rough-hewn timber exterior and private stone patio graced by rustic carriage lamps. Its wood burning fireplace and cozy interior offer a glimpse into a bygone era, but Swayback offers contemporary comforts including a modern bathroom and a built-in chest of drawers.

Oak Cottage:

One of the four original Pine Crest Inn buildings constructed in 1906, the two-story Oak Cottage today holds six guest rooms and suites. It is surrounded by fragrant camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons and features a first-floor porch with rocking chairs and a second-level deck. A quaint stone path lit by a carriage lamp adds to the charm of this delightful building.

Twain Cottage:

A charming log cabin bordered by a low flowering border, the Twain Cottage houses one guest room and one suite. The delightful stone patio is illuminated by rustic carriage lanterns and holds a small table and chairs. The Twain Cottage also has a small back yard with a view of the mountains.

Woodland Suite:

Sheltered by a substantial white oak, Woodland Suite is a private structure at the eastern perimeter of the Pine Crest Inn property. A mossy stone path leads to a large wooden deck, which is lushly surrounded by hollies, azaleas and ivy. The Woodland's interior is bright and spacious with soaring angled ceilings.

The English Cottage:

The English Cottage was constructed in 1906 as one of the original four buildings at the Pine Crest Inn. Bordered by attractive camellias and azaleas, it features a lower-level porch with rocking chairs and a rooftop deck with an unobstructed view of the gazebo and central gardens. The English Cottage houses five guest rooms and suites.

The Woodcutter Cottage:

The Woodcutter is a Swiss Chalet-style private cottage surrounded by holly trees, ivy and azaleas. A front patio with a charming stone bench offers a lovely view of the gazebo and rose garden.

Stone Cottage:

Stone Cottage is a delightful structure sheltered by a magnificent weeping willow. Climbing English ivy, striking rhododendron bushes, and feathery evergreens soften its irregular stone exterior. Its impressive inner walls and fireplace are constructed entirely of stone. Stone Cottage features an expansive great room and French doors leading out to a large private deck.

Hunt Cottage:

Hunt Cottage is one of the original four structures built in 1906. It is surrounded by rhododendrons and hollies, and offers pleasing views of the gazebo from its rocking chair porch and second story deck. The Hunt Cottage contains four guest rooms and suites.

Treetop Cottage:

Tucked between splendid grand magnolias, the Treetop is a delightful white cottage that is just a short walk from the Pine Crest Lodge. The Tree Top is spacious and private; it boasts lofty ceilings, an upper-level loft and is flooded with sunshine from its rooftop skylight.

Four Diamond Dining:

Fine dining is reason alone to visit the Pine Crest Inn. Our restaurant carries the coveted AAA Four-Diamond Award, as does the Inn. Our charming, full service Fox and Hounds Bar offers a wide range of libations, as well as a Wine Spectator award-winning wine list.

Our kitchen staff prepares a tantalizing breakfast daily which is complimentary for each guest lodging at the Inn, and serves distinctive gourmet dinners Thursday through Monday. The restaurant, furnished in the style of an English Tavern, serves new American cuisine featuring regional ingredients. Our chefs craft daily menus to reflect seasonal offerings and market availability.

We request reservations for each meal to assure we are able to provide only the highest quality service and utmost attention for your dining experience.

Your Hosts:

North Carolina natives Carl and Christopher Caudle bought the Pine Crest Inn in May of 2003. Looking for a significant lifestyle change, the brothers came together to breathe new life and energy into this historic property. Christopher is accompanied by his wife April, who shared their wedding vows at Pine Crest Inn in July of 2003.

Carl serves as the General Manager of the Pine Crest Inn. Carl's transition from the technology sector to the hospitality industry benefits the inn's corporate clientèle. Traveling across the country and around the world for previous employers, Carl has experienced first-hand the best and worst of accommodations and dining for the business traveler. He draws upon these when ensuring that the inn's corporate retreats are appropriately tailored for productivity and relaxation. Carl also brings his passion for fine wines; a condition that matured during his 8-year tenure in California's wine region.

Christopher and April come to Tryon, NC by way of Charleston, SC. Both serve as Innkeepers at Pine Crest and live in the owner's house, located behind the inn's main cottage. Christopher's previous career as a software trainer and April's prior experience working at a Day Spa have abundantly prepared them for the personal attention that is paramount to innkeeper duties. Whether you are visiting the Pine Crest Inn for a meeting or a romantic getaway, Christopher and April will cater to your needs.

Carl and Christopher's parents Ray and Sharon, also North Carolina natives, are frequent visitors to the inn when away from their home on the South Carolina coast. The brothers have two other siblings, another brother and their sister, who both live with their families in near-by Winston-Salem, NC.
