Bienvenidos! And Welcome!
Your stay in Corrales, a village on the Northern edge of
Albuquerque, New Mexico and forty minutes South of Santa Fe, offers an
opportunity to step back to the days of ancient pueblos, Coronado's
expedition in the 1540's, and the Spanish and Mexico eras from 1704 to
1846.
The Albuquerque/Corrales/Santa Fe, New Mexico region is
central to many of New Mexico's historic sites. Many of these sites are
one day trips to and from the Nora Dixon Place Bed and Breakfast.
Old Town Albuquerque offers museums, galleries,
sightseeing, Indian art and many wonderful restaurants.
Corrales offers five restaurants, Galleries, a Pottery
Artisan, and Metal Art Foundry, 1650's Casa San Ysidro Museum, and the
Old San Ysidro Church (1850's), and many merchants within a mile of the
Nora Dixon Place Bed & Breakfast.
Rio Rancho, New Mexico borders Corrales to the West and
is 3 miles from the Nora Dixon Place. Intel's is the largest
manufacturer in the State of New Mexico. It overlooks Corrales from Rio
Rancho, New Mexico.
The Nora Dixon Place, built in 1960, represents New
Mexico's unique Territorial era architecture. The New Mexico Territorial
era house is adobe brick with sawn pine trim painted we, and pedimented,
divided-light windows. Adapted for use of available materials, the style
brought eastern traditions to the frontier.
Set on an acre and a half in the Bosque (in Spanish,
woods by the river), cottonwoods, Russian olives, fruit trees, native
plants, livestock and vegetable farms provide rural peacefulness just 35
minutes from the Albuquerque airport. Visit Santa Fe, New Mexico by a
short 50 minute drive North on New Mexico Interstate 25.
Location:
Corrales is located 17 miles North and 3 miles East of
the Albuquerque Airport. Our location offers a rural setting in the
midst of the Albuquerque Metro Area which includes Corrales, Rio Rancho,
Town of Bernalillo, Belen, Paradise Hills, and Taylor Ranch.
Our location offers walking distance to the wooded
preserve (Bosque) along the Rio Grande. The beautiful pink glow of the
Sandia Mountain at sunset is a master piece of beauty in the Land of
Enchantment. Day trips from the Nora Dixon Place Bed & Breakfast to
historic ruins, pueblos, Jemez mountain trail, Bandelier National
Monument (Anasazi Ruins) and much more, are convenient excursions to
make for memorable experiences in the Land of Enchantment.
Sandia Mountain, directly east (in Spanish, meaning
watermelon), rises more than 5,000 feet above the valley floor to 10,400
feet. The setting sun creates a breath-taking beautiful rose glow on the
ancient granite.
Rooms:
The Bosque Room:
The Bosque View Room is our fireplace room, with a
queen bed, lamp table, dresser, antique table and chairs, bar sink,
microwave and refrigerator. The full bath is decorated with Mexican
tiles, and the floor is saltillo tile. The ceiling is pine.
The Bosque Room opens onto an enclosed courtyard. The
entrance is 36 inches wide for wheelchair entry with two steps up from
the patio.
The Falcon View Suite:
The Falcon View Suite opens onto the courtyard and
features a sitting room furnished with a queen-sized futon to
accommodate more than two persons. The sitting room also has a
refrigerator and microwave, antique table and chairs, coffee table and
lamp tables.
The bedroom suite is furnished with with a queen-sized
bed, dresser, and has a walk-in closet and adjoining tiled bath.
The Wisteria Room:
The Wisteria Room is entered from the courtyard portal
behind an incredible wisteria arbor. The room can also be entered from
inside the main house and has a full bath. Both rooms have large
windows that look out onto the courtyard.
The Wisteria Room is furnished with a queen-size bed,
a walk-in closet, a wicker chair, an antique lamp and table, a
drop-leaf table and chairs for breakfast dining.
Breakfast:
Breakfast is served in the dining room, the courtyard,
or in your room, as you prefer. A full breakfast is served on Saturday
and Sunday mornings, and a continental breakfast on weekdays.
Fresh fruit, baguettes, sausages, special cheeses, sweet
breads, granola, jams, French toast, frittatas, and yogurt are but a few
of the offerings. Plus, there is always fresh ground coffee, brewed
teas, and milk.
Nearby Attractions:
The Cultural Arts Council and the Corrales Historic
Society provide concerts, dramatic performances, lectures, and showings
at the community center located at the former San Ysidro Church on Old
Church Road. There are fiestas and harvest celebrations, wine tasting
events, and traditional Hispanic and Native American dances and
religious observances throughout the year. Two of Corrales' most
historic buildings are available for viewing. Casa San Ysidro Museum is
a 1650's estate that is now operated by the Albuqerque Museum. The Old
San Ysidro Church (1850's) is also a Southwest treasure not to be
missed.
Day trips to the Indian Pueblos, Santa Fe, Taos, the
Bosque del Apache Bird Sanctuary at Socorro and several national
monuments and forests, are an easy drive. The Kodak Albuquerque
International Balloon Fiesta takes place just across the river; the
Arabian Horse Show is held at the Fair Grounds in Albuquerque. Premier
ski resorts and a number of championship golf courses are close by.
If you are into outdoor activities, nearby there is
horseback riding, hiking, river rafting, golfing, fishing, bird
watching, world class shopping, museums, and galleries.
Then, of course, there is always the Kodak Albuquerque
International Balloon Fiesta. This huge event draws over 100,000
visitors and 1000+ balloons to the area every October. And you can see
it all from the patio and porticos of Nora Dixon Place... well, if
you're gotten your reservations in early.
There's something for every taste. The tough part is
choosing!
