A "Mother Daughter" twin home built in 1881 as
a seaside vacation home for the Page family, the inn has ever since been
catering to family, friends and vacationers of the day.
Bedford Inn is well located, a very short block to the
beach and near many fine restaurants and the shops of the Victorian
Mall. On site parking is available for all but large vans and trucks.
Plan a relaxed and carefree vacation with us in a unique
Victorian town by the sea. Start off your day with a sumptuous breakfast
shared with other guests in our dining room or take a tray to one of our
porches, enjoying the fresh air.
Then head for the beach and its pleasures or join a
guided tour of our beautiful historic district. Or, poke around town by
yourselves admiring Cape May's famed Victorian architecture with its
exuberant gingerbread trim. Check out our many unique shops or indulge
in a coffee break on our "Victorian Mall" and leisurely watch
the world go by.
Relax and enjoy the quiet of our authentic Victorian
guestrooms or perhaps a “honeymoon” suite for a special getaway. All
rooms and suites have a private bath, each with a shower and some also
with an old-fashioned clawfoot tub.
Each room is beautifully decorated with period antiques
but has a few modern touches with air-conditioning, television and VCR.
Most of our rooms offer a queen bed and two suites offer a king.
Enjoy the cozy fireplace in our Victorian parlor or
choose a book from one of our bookcases. Grab a rocking chair and laze
away an hour or two on one of our large, airy verandas.
Come down to tea in the late afternoon and chat with
other guests – sharing your impressions of Cape May with its lovely
beach, its beautiful collection of Victorian buildings, wonderful
restaurants, cafes, shops and tours.
Cindy has been welcoming guests to her home for over 35
years. Now her son James has joined her in offering warm Bedford Inn
hospitality.
Come for a visit and take a well earned break from your
busy life at home... relax and enjoy the quiet warmth of a home created
over many years.
Take back special memories of the old fashion charm of
our village by the sea.
Rooms:
All rooms and suites have a private bath, each with a
shower and some with an old fashion clawfoot tub. Each room is decorated
with period antiques but has touches of the twenty first century in air
conditioning, television and VCR.
Most of our rooms provide a queen bed and two suites
have a king bed.
James's Room - Room # 1:
On the first floor, in the front just off the porch,
James’ Room is our largest standard room with twelve foot high
ceilings and features a fireplace insert in the original Victorian
hearth. The wallpaper is dark blue paisley stripe wallpaper, covered
with large cabbage roses in shades of rose and the wide Southern pine
floorboards are covered with a dark blue oriental rug.
All furnishings are Victorian walnut – a high-backed
queen bed; a mirrored double-door armoire; marble top, mirrored
bureau; and a loveseat, covered in a cabbage rose tapestry. A few
concessions to modern day comfort include a small private bath with
tile stall shower, a ceiling fan, and air conditioning (in summer
months) as well as a small color TV and VCR.
Jacquelyn's Room - Room #4:
On the second floor in the front, just behind the
balcony, Jacquelyn’s Room has high ceilings and features a beautiful
Victorian walnut bedroom set - a double bed with an ornately carved
head and foot boards, a wide bureau with an oversize framed mirror and
two "secret" drawers, and a tall chest with a bonnet
cabinet. The lovely wallpaper is floral in shades of dusty lavender
and olive green and the three large windows are draped in lace panels,
swagged at the top with silk violets. Step up into the small bathroom
tucked into the corner of the room for the "necessaries".
Air-conditioned (in summer) with a small color TV and VCR.
Patricia's Room - Room # 5:
Patricia’s Room is on the second floor in the oldest
part of the inn, has high ceilings, a queen bed, Victorian furnishings
and a private bathroom with an antique clawfoot tub (shower added).
The striped and floral wallpaper is in shades of rose and blue. Air
conditioned (in summer) with a small color TV and VCR.
Amy’s Room - Room # 6:
On the second floor just behind the front balcony,
Jennifer’s Room has high ceilings, a queen bed and features
Victorian walnut furniture and pretty floral wallpaper with striking
black background. The small step-up bathroom has an unusual antique
corner sink under a matching corner Victorian "medicine
chest". The three large windows are draped in lace panels. Air
conditioning (in summer) with a small color TV and VCR.
Lucinda's Suite - Suite # 10:
Lucinda’s Suite is tucked away into the back of
second floor – a small "Honeymoon" hideaway with its cozy
bedroom, sitting room and private bath. The suite is warm and
welcoming, with lovely Victorian paisley wallpaper in shades of soft
green and maroon and all windows dressed in sheer panels, embroidered
with roses.
The antique Victorian furniture includes a walnut high
back king bed with matching step-down bureau and washstand. The small
sitting room has an Eastlake style three-piece parlor set upholstered
in rose velvet. There is a private bath with tub/shower and in the
sitting room a small color TV with a VCR. Air conditioning (in
summer).
Catherine's Suite - Suite # 11:
In the oldest section of the inn on the third floor
and with a small "peek" at the ocean, Catherine's Suite is
one entire wing, a 'Honeymoon' suite, decorated in floral wallpapers
and with an oriental rug covering wide Southern Pine floorboards in
the bedroom. The large bedroom with three windows is furnished with a
walnut Victorian high back king bed and a lovely Victorian settee,
which provides a cozy sitting area. The separate sitting room has a
brass and white iron daybed, which may be used to sleep a third person
and a TV and a VCR. The private bathroom has a stall shower.
Virginia's Suite - Suite # 12:
The other wing of the third floor is Virginia’s
Suite, our largest 'Honeymoon' Suite, decorated with romantic floral
Victorian wallpapers - soft blue and dark pink cabbage roses in the
large bedroom with its high-back Victorian queen bed, marble top
walnut bureau, small walnut washstand and Victorian settee. The three
windows are hung with lace panels and offer a small 'peek' of the
nearby ocean. An oriental rug covers the wide floorboards.
The cozy sitting room contains a white iron daybed, an
antique dresser and a small color TV with a VCR. The large Victorian
country style bathroom has an antique restored clawfoot tub (shower
added) and an oak washstand. Virginia's Suite offers a memorable
'hideaway' for special occasions.
