Welcome to our elegant Victorian Bed and Breakfast. Our home is the
oldest surviving lumber baron's home in historic Stillwater, birthplace
of Minnesota.
Relax in the charming surrounding of the scenic St. Croix River
Valley where you can, explore antique shops, ride the dinner train,
float in a hot air balloon or enjoy fine dining.
Jacob Bean, co-founder of the Hersey, Bean and Brown Lumber mill,
purchased this towering four story mansion in 1880. In 1901, the house
was the setting for the grand, high Victorian wedding of his daughter,
Ann Bean, to Albert S. Lehmicke, a prominent Stillwater banker. That
same year Jacob and his wife Cynthia moved westward to California,
leaving the residence to Ann and Albert. Since the home stayed in the
family until 1957, the Ann Bean Mansion still retains the finest in
Victorian design which includes ornately carved oak fireplaces, shutters
that fold into 18 inch thick walls, and two stately towers with
magnificent views of the St. Croix Valley. The house is being carefully
restored to its original splendor.
We welcome guests at check-in time with seasonal refreshments from
4:30 to 6:00 p.m. The parlor is always open to curl-up with a good book,
play the grand piano, or share friendly conversation.
Our mansion with a double parlor and dining room is also available
for weddings and business meetings or seasonal events. Guest rooms are
air conditioned.
