Nestled in the pines this 1851 colonial is a gem
featuring ten foot ceilings, original center hall staircase with
carvings, original wooden floors throughout. Rooms are beautifully
appointed with meaningful family treasures spanning generations.
The hosts with their warmth, friendliness, and personal
touches create an atmosphere of serenity enabling guests to feel as if
they were with family. One guest wrote "the Parsonage is a little
piece of heaven for us".
Guests read in front of the fireplace, sip tea on the
veranda in the summer, eat a full breakfast by candlelight on an
elegantly set table. Half-block to Main Street which looks like a model
for a Norman Rockwell creation.
Rooms:
Our guests have two common areas -- a large parlor with
fireplace and piano (1900) that has a beautiful tone and a library with
television, books and games.
Our guest bedrooms all have fresh flowers, bathrobes,
reading materials and plenty of lights for reading in bed, hand-dipped
chocolates from Catherine's Chocolates, and china mugs for early morning
coffee/tea served in the upstairs hall.
In the evening the beds are turned down for the guests.
This is a bed and breakfast that pampers their guests.
Charles Lee Room:
Laura Ashley blue and white floral wallpaper,
coordinating blue, white and yellow comforters and puff pillow shams,
blue swags and white lace curtains adorn the bay window with its
window seat decorated with pillows and a china vase.
The queen size bed with 2 lamps on the wall above for
reading and the bureau are matching from 1920's. Queen Anne wingback
blue chair with floor lamp next to it is in one corner. In the other
corner is a European trunk with iron brackets, original olive paint,
late 18th century. A red-wool dress hand crocheted in the 1930's for
innkeeper Barbara is framed and hangs with framed portraits of the
innkeeper's daughters wearing the dress. An antique doll bed (acorn
finials, circa 1880's) holds innkeeper Barbara's dolls from the
1930's. The wide pine floors are covered with a blue and white throw
rug.
Abigail Adams Room:
Four poster Queen size cherry bed with white crocheted
coverlet over rose comforter, with rose swags over floral draperies.
A floor lamp with Victorian shade behind the bed
provides light for reading in bed. On top of the Sheraton cherry
bureau, circa 1880's, is a colonial style mirror. From the late
Federal period is a grain-painted pine wardrobe on top of which are
old hat boxes. Floral slip-covered easy chair with a wall lamp next to
it provides reading area. The wide pine floors are covered with a
room-size rose-hooked rug.
Sam Adams Room:
The double brass bed with comforter and matching
draperies are 89 years old, having been purchased for innkeeper
Barbara's mother on her 16th birthday. Above the oak armchair, circa
1880's, is the marriage certificate of Barbara's maternal
grandparents. Hanging on the wall adjacent to the empire mahogany
chest, circa 1860's, are prints from Denmark, France, and Spain
collected by the innkeepers in their travels to Europe. The wide pine
floors are covered with white throw rugs.
Deborah Sampson Room:
Laura Ashley pink wallpaper with matching floral
valances and comforter and pillow shams on high back Victorian Oak
queen size bed, circa 1890. Mahogany bureau, circa 1920's, has
matching chairs, one rocking and one straight. On top of the bureau is
1930's bakelite vanity set, and a brush and hand mirror needle-point
under glass from early 1910's. The mahogany china closet has a doll
collection that includes Madame Alexander dolls. A child's dress,
purchased in Austria in the 1930's for innkeeper Barbara, is framed
along with three framed photos of the dress being worn by the
innkeeper and her two daughters. The wide pine floors are covered with
large rag rugs made by the Mennonites in Indiana.
