The Cornell Inn is located in the heart of historic Lenox village. A
three guesthouse inn with buildings that date back to 1777.
The inn's Main House (c. 1888) is a Victorian with 10 guest rooms.
The Carriage House, circa 1889, is decorated in a country primitive
style. Two of the suites in the Carriage House each offer a full
kitchen, perfect for long term guests. The MacDonald House, a private
family home built in 1777, has 10 guest rooms, each decorated in the
Colonial style.
All rooms are strictly non-smoking, have private bathroom, color
cable television, telephone with digital voicemail and air conditioning.
Many of our rooms feature a fireplace, whirlpool tub, mini-bar and a
deck to offer you year-round comfort. A full, sumptuous breakfast is
included each morning. Many of our guests return year after year, and
many recommend us to their friends.
Cultural activities define the beautiful Berkshire summers.
Tanglewood, the Boston Symphony Orchestra's summer home, is located just
1½ miles from the inn. Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival, The Berkshire
Theatre Festival, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Shakespeare and Company
and countless other cultural attractions call the Berkshires home.
During the summer, enjoy the front porch with its wicker furniture,
the gardens, and the decks surrounding our pond and waterfall. During
the winter, make yourself comfortable in front of the living room
fireplace or by the fireplace in your room. Each evening our private pub
is open for our houseguests. The inn's common areas are all very
welcoming. The Cornell Inn is adjacent to Kennedy Park, a 600 acre town
park with many trails for hiking, biking, walking, running, skiing and
snowshoeing.
Rooms:
The Main House:
The Main House, a private family home built in 1888, has 10
guestrooms. The common area has two sitting areas for guests. The Main
House is also where Duffy's Pub, which is open to our houseguests
only, is located. The Victorian rooms are each decorated in a unique
style.
The MacDonald House:
The MacDonald House, a private family home built in 1777, has 10
guestrooms. The common area has the original wide plank floors and
most of the rooms have an original hand-hewn corner beam exposed. The
MacDonald family has a rich history, including Edward MacDonald's
service in the Civil War. Mr. MacDonald went on to help found the
Lenox National Bank and the Lenox Water Company, both of which are
still in existence. He was later elected as a State Representative.
The Carriage House:
The Carriage House was built in 1889 for the Cornell family. During
Prohibition, the Carriage house was a "Speakeasy". The
building was converted into dormitory quarters for Tanglewood students
in the 1950's. The 8 guest rooms are now decorated in a country style.
Two of the units are loft suites with kitchens, making them perfect
for a long term stay.
Common Areas:
Upon arrival at the inn, you will register in the Main House. Once
you are given a tour and made familiar with the grounds, we will check
you into your room and turn down your bed.
The living room is the perfect spot to relax by the fireplace with a
drink from Duffy's Pub. Read the paper, unwind and enjoy the warm,
Victorian atmosphere.
Also located in the inn's Main House, the sitting room contains racks
of informative pamphlets, schedules, maps and visitors' guides to the
beautiful Berkshires.
The atrium and dining area are warmed by the sun, making them perfect
for starting the day with a delicious breakfast. Our daily full
breakfast menus include fresh fruit, bagels, homemade muffins, breakfast
breads, yogurt, cheeses, vegetables, homemade granola, baked eggs,
blueberry pancakes, baked apples, oatmeal, cold cereals, juices, coffee
and an assortment of teas.
Some of the inn's signature dishes are baked eggs, stuffed French
toast, blueberry pancakes, banana pancakes and Belgian waffles. The
selection changes daily, and breakfast is included in your package. The
hours of the buffet breakfast are 8 - 10 AM daily.
Warmer days invite you to enjoy breakfast, a cocktail, a picnic or
just some quiet time relaxing on our decks. Surrounded by flowers and
the flow of the waterfall, our decks are located just a step from the
breakfast room. The pond is home to many Koi, carp and frogs.
Retreat to the upper deck to relax on the swing overlooking the pond
and side yard. Listen to the birds, smell the flowers and the crisp,
clean air. The Berkshires are the perfect place for anyone looking for a
break from the rush of the city.
During the winter, sip your coffee and watch the snow fall.
Foliage:
Possibly the most beautiful of our Berkshire seasons is autumn. Warm,
sunny days and cool, crisp nights not only facilitate the changing of
the leaves, they offer perfect weather for enjoying the foliage.
Striking shades of yellow, orange, red and purple paint the Berkshire
landscape to create breathtaking views. The hillsides and valleys are
emblazoned with amazing colors. Spend your days photographing the
foliage and visiting the wonderful museums and galleries. Then, return
to the inn and relax by the fire with a wonderful beverage from our pub.
You may choose to sit and relax by the waterfall and bask in the fresh
air of the incredible Berkshire autumn.
Duffy's Pub:
In the immortal words of Joe Duffy, "Cead mile Failte!"
Gaelic for "one hundred thousand welcomes", it is the best way
to welcome you to Duffy's Pub and to convey the sense of comfort felt
there. There are a few tables and a few barstools, but the selection
never ends. Nor, in fact, does the fun. Upon your arrival at the inn,
join us in Duffy's Pub for one of our 21 varieties of beer. Or one of
our 12 wines. Opt for one of our 6 vodkas or 6 gins. If cognac suits
you, we have 6 to choose from. Like we said, the selection never ends.
No visit to the Cornell Inn is complete without a drink at Duffy's Pub.
