To be a guest at the Ashley Inn is to step back into a
quieter, more relaxed period of time... but with all the modern
conveniences.
We offer several bedrooms on the second floor - each
furnished in its own individual style with antiques, some handed down
through our family, some purchased with care from estate sales. Each
room features oversize, airy windows, private bath, bureau, reading
lamps and comfortable chairs. Some with a queen-sized bed, another a
four-poster with mahogany/birdseye maple headboard, another a brass bed
frame.
We invite our guests to relax on our broad marble
veranda or in our first floor parlor or TV room where they can enjoy our
collection of antique clocks.
We serve a hearty "made from scratch" full
breakfast in our dining room plus an afternoon "lite" tea in
the parlor or on the veranda.
History:
Built in 1876 for shoe merchant A.P. Hollenbeck, the
Classic Revival house became the home of the Deely family from 1887
until 1940. The Deelys owned quarries in Lee which provided marble for
several of the turn-of-the-century Berkshire estates (and the Ashley Inn
veranda). In the 1980's the house was completely renovated and became an
inn shortly thereafter. Current innkeepers Dawn and Paul Borst, seasoned
travelers themselves, are particularly suited to innkeeping, knowing
first-hand the extra special touches that make guests welcome and
comfortable.
Antique Clocks:
Innkeeper Paul Borst keeps his remarkable collection of
antique shelf clocks on display at the Ashley Inn. All are excellent
examples of New England clock making during the 1800's. Ten wooden cased
striking clocks reside in various locations on the first floor, while
another twenty are kept in the basement, where Paul also does repair and
restoration work in his fully equipped clock making shop.
Most of the clocks kept on display are from Paul's own
collection, but one or two are occasionally for sale. In addition, Paul
can locate clocks for interested persons. For more information, please
call Paul at the Ashley Inn.
Location:
The Ashley Inn is ideally located in a residential
neighborhood - yet 2/10 of a mile from downtown Lee's restaurants and
shops and a block from Greenock Country Club's golf course and tennis
courts, open to the public. Ashley Inn's location also provides easy
access to Berkshire cultural attractions.
