In 1818 Andrew James Wardlaw purchased 600 acres of
prime Kentucky farmland and built on it a home for his wife and three
children.
In 1868 the home burnt down and was rebuilt by Andrew James
Wardlaw III. The generations of Wardlaws continued to dwell in the home
until 1956. In 1958 Emit Strode purchased the Home Stead and currently
his son and daughter-in-law own the property which was restored in 1997.
This two story home boasts triple-layer brick interior
and exterior walls and eleven foot ceilings. Among its features are a
grand circular cantilever walnut staircase, six fireplaces, and original
poplar flooring throughout the home.
Beautiful antiques and reproductions of Civil War era adorn this
Historic Residence. The 1869 Home Stead is listed on The National
Register of Historic Places.
Three Rooms are available for your enjoyment. All rooms feature queen
size beds, cable TV, a private bath, and gorgeous views of the sun
rising and setting over the rustic scenery.
The 1869 Home Stead offers over 55 acres of lush green
fields, trees, fishing ponds and above all peace and serenity. Also
available is hiking and viewing of the historical Wardlaw family, slave
and church cemeteries.
