Relax into comfortable Southern hospitality at Kentucky's First Farm
Inn, less than two miles off Cincinnati's beltline, just past the
airport, 20 minutes from downtown.
Our elegantly updated 1870's farm house is set on 20 acres of
Kentucky's rolling hills above the Ohio River where Indiana, Kentucky
and Ohio join.
Watch the horses play or take some time to get acquainted with our
assortment of equine personalities and learn about their previous lives
on the racetrack or in the show arena. Whether you're a beginner or an
expert, you'll enjoy riding with Jen.
If you prefer animals on a smaller scale, offer a lap and kitty or
two will play or purr as you rock or swing on the porch.
Watch the horses, await the sunset, or count the stars as you recline
in our luxurious outdoor spa all year round.
In the privacy of your spacious room, stretch out and relax for a
full body massage by a licensed therapist.
Wake to the smells of breakfast cooking and the sounds of the birds
after a restful night on a comfortable queen size mattress set on a
century old antique oak bed frame.

Guest Room:
Your spacious room with private bath includes a century old oak bed
with a new queen size mattress. Business travelers will appreciate our
work space, dual phone lines, FAX receiving and Internet access.
First Farm Inn's downstairs room has tall windows overlooking the
neighbor's pasture, a matching antique oak bedroom set that has been in
Jen's family for four generations, and quilts made by our great
grandmothers.
Our upstairs room's impressive size comes from its original design to
house three of the Stevens brothers who each were responsible for a
different species of animals: cattle, sheep and hogs. The family
emigrated here from Germany and built the house in 1870.
Visible through the 200 year old maple to the east is the big barn
designed for cows. Note its "dry stacked" rock foundation and
the huge supporting timbers with hand carved wooden pegs. The small barn
was for pigs. The sheep barn, which is no longer standing, could be seen
from the west window in this room.
Previous owners added the cathedral ceiling. Jen's great grandparents
whose photos are on the living room wall originally owned the antique
oak bed and washstand. We've been told the oversized bath was among the
first indoor plumbing in the county.
Breakfast:
Enjoy a bountiful breakfast. Geared to guests' convenience, a full
hot breakfast is presented family-style when you like. Try something new
like Pasta Carbonara or Swiss Rosti or request down-home Southern
favorites like whole-wheat biscuits and sausage gravy.
Coffee, tea and sweets always available early to enjoy on the porch
or in your room. Let us know if you prefer vegetarian, low fat, low
sodium, etc.
Area Activities:
A half hour away, downtown Cincinnati offers all the variety and
excitement of a big city. Antique shops and shows and Perfect North Ski
Resort are 10 - 20 minutes south or west. To really see Kentucky, enjoy
the scenic drive to Rabbit Hash and stop by the General Store for some
sarsaparilla or Kentucky cream candy.
Horseback Riding Lessons:
If you have basic balance, posture, common sense and willingness to
learn about horses and their habits, you can ride our horses under Jen's
supervision. If you are interested in riding, please ask for current
rates.
Please do not ask to ride if you weigh over 225 pounds or if you are
not physically fit enough to get up on a horse. Anyone who is fearful
may be led on horseback.
Many children are capable of riding, but they must listen and respond
well for their own enjoyment. It is not safe to bring a thoughtless,
undisciplined, or rude child to a farm.
The horse experience lasts approximately 2 hours. Lessons begin with
grooming and getting acquainted with your horse. This guarantees that
you will get dirty.
Please dress accordingly, wear straight legged jeans (you will be
uncomfortable in baggy pants) and hard soled shoes (but not cleated
hiking boots). Before you come to ride, practice good posture, stand
against a wall, heels, head and shoulders touching. Posture is the key
to balance. Balance is the key to riding.
After you demonstrate the ability to adapt to your horse kindly and
comfortably, we move out of the riding arena. Our horses are not drugged
nor do they follow head to tail. They are quiet and gentle and like
people. Of course, horses can be unpredictable. By coming to the farm,
you accept all liability for your experience on the ground or riding.
Arrange riding in advance. You may bring carrots or apples as treats
if you'd like. Overnight boarding is available.
Directions:
Please do not use any of the internet mapping services for our place,
they are incorrect. Use our directions as follows:
From The East or I-75:
- Follow signs to the Cincinnati - Northern Kentucky International
airport, taking I-275 west about 10 miles.
- Go past the airport to Exit 11 (KY 20 to Petersburg).
From The West or I-275:
- Take Exit 11, KY 20 (Petersburg, the first Kentucky exit from
Indiana).
- From the exit turn right off the ramp and go one mile to Stevens,
the first road on the right at the top of the hill.
- When you see signs where KY 20 turns south, prepare to turn.
- Make sure you turn on top of the hill where you see the little
green Stevens Road sign, not at the bottom of the hill down the
private drive at the half mile mark.
- There is a small, neatly kept white house on the top of the hill
to the left.
- First Farm Inn is one mile ahead on your right.
- Look for the white fence. The road dead ends at the far end of our
property line.
- Please park on the asphalt in front of the house or under the
tree.
