Kanela Kai is a bright and spacious studio apartment that accommodates short or extended stays at an affordable price.

Kanela Kai is attached to a canal-front home in Kailua. We are located between Kailua Beach and Kawainui Marsh in a beautiful beach town on the windward side of Oahu.

The studio has a private entrance and private bath. It looks out onto a tropical garden.

The room rate includes a stocked breakfast, including fresh island fruit, sufficient for three days. Breakfast is self-serve.

We are located just 1 mile from lovely Kailua beach and Kailua bay, home to many sea turtles. The center of Kailua town is only 1.5 miles away. Kailua is a charming beach town with boutique and antique shops, cafes and restaurants. Kailua has no hotels or motels.

We are also located very close to Kawainui Marsh, a wetland home to several species of endangered Hawaiian birds. Beautiful Kaneohe Bay, ideal for sailing, is about 2 miles away. We will be happy to provide you with insider information on sightseeing and other activities in Kailua and the rest of Oahu.

We are conveniently located close to all the major tourist attractions on Oahu. Lanikai beach is a 10 minute drive. Waikiki beach, Diamond Head, Iolani Palace, Bishop Museum, Hanauma Bay and Pearl Harbor/Arizona Memorial is a 30 minute drive. Polynesian Cultural Center and the surfing towns of the North Shore is a 1 hour drive.

Need To Know:

• No pets allowed.
• The studio is not wheelchair accessible.
• Bus stops located within 150 feet from studio entrance.
• The room is not child-proof - not suitable for very young children.
• Absolutely no smoking in the studio or anywhere on the premises.
• Cleaning services are provided prior to arrival and after departure.
• Mokapu Blvd is a two-lane, main road located in a residential neighborhood in Kailua.
• There are no laundry facilities or telephone on site. There are several laundromats near by.
• Breakfast typically includes fresh island fruit, yogurt, cereal, butter and jam, bread/waffles or bagels, milk, fruit juice, Hawaiian coffee and Ceylon tea.
• Only registered guests permitted on the property (unless other arrangements have been made with the host)

Things To Do:

A 20 minute paddle down the canal located outside our home takes you to the canal mouth in Kailua Bay, a natural habitat for Green Sea Turtles.

A 10 minute paddle up the canal takes you to Kawainui Marsh, and a view of Mt. Olomana.

Swim, windsurf, kitesurf, kayak, paddle an outrigger canoe, boogie board or snorkel at Kailua Bay.

The north end of Kailua beach is a 20 minute walk (1 mile) from Kanela Kai. This secluded area is rarely visited by tourists.

Kailua beach park is a short drive (2.5 miles) away. There are lifeguards, showers, restrooms, snack bar and parking lots.

Lanikai beach is about 1 mile from Kailua beach park. Lanikai means heavenly ocean and is true to its name. There are no facilities at this beach.

About Your Hosts:

Richard and Shiyana have lived in Hawaii for over 15 years. Richard is an astronomer who enjoys photography, kayaking, outrigger canoe paddling, swimming and hiking. If you're interested in astronomy, Richard will gladly share his knowledge with you on a clear night. (Our back yard is a good place to star-gaze.) Shiyana is an education program director who enjoys travelling, painting, kayaking and getting to know her guests.
