Built by Isabel Holden, widow of a prosperous Colorado Springs businessman, this 1902 storybook Victorian, 1906 carriage house, and 1898 adjacent rose Victorian, are centrally located near historic Old Colorado City in Colorado Springs.

The inn, lovingly restored by the Clarks in 1985, is filled with antiques and family heirlooms. Holden House offers the convenience of a central location with the charm and quiet of a tree lined and historic residential area.

Named for mining towns, the Cripple Creek, Aspen, Goldfield, Silverton, and Independence guest suites feature private attached baths and are furnished with queen beds, period furnishings, fireplaces, private sitting areas, oversized "tubs for two" and modern conveniences such as telephone / modem, color cable TV with DVD player, CD clock radio, refrigerator, hair dryer and iron / ironing board.

The inn is centrally located to the Pikes Peak Region in a residential area of older Victorian homes near historic "Old Colorado City". Guests enjoy the living room with a fireplace and wingback chairs, front parlor with TV, 24 hour coffee/tea and bottomless cookie jar, wide wrap around veranda with wicker furniture and porch swings, and our "secret" back garden with a gazebo and fountains. Some suites offer separate entrance and covered porches perfect for relaxation.

Gourmet breakfasts, served in the elegant formal dining room, might include carob chip muffins, Sallie's famous Southwestern Eggs Fiesta, fresh fruit, gourmet coffee, tea and juice (Sunday features sparkling cider with your breakfast). Complimentary refreshments, homemade cookies, sparkling water, and turndown service are just some of Holden House's special touches. An optional breakfast en suite "Romance Package" is available for an additional charge.

Sallie and Welling will be happy to help in planning your itinerary around the many activities in the Pikes Peak Region. Take the cog railway or highway to the top of 14, 110 foot Pikes Peak, hike in Garden of the Gods or Cheyenne Canon, tour the area's many museums, shops, galleries, the Air Force Academy or US Olympic Training Center, visit famous Royal Gorge & Seven Falls, or take a chance at gambling in historic Cripple Creek. All are within easy driving distance of the inn.

Friendly resident cats Mingtoy and Muffin will greet you.

AAA 3 diamond and Mobil 3 star awards assure you of a quality experience.

Your Hosts:

Sallie & Welling moved to Colorado from California in 1985, and lovingly restored the neglected 1902 Victorian and original carriage house. In 1986 they began welcoming guests to share in their love of old homes. The extensive renovation included the installation of a new foundation, plumbing, heating, wiring, landscaping and total restoration.

In 1994, the adjacent Rose Victorian was also added to the inn. The Clarks look on the inn as a continuing project of love and labor for these classic Victorian homes. Guests can appreciate the renovation project by viewing the Holden House "Before & After" photograph album.

Many of the inn's furnishings belonged to Sallie's grandmother who resided in Pueblo, Colorado. Family treasures include an 1898 Estate Oak parlor stove which was used on her grandmother's farm, an intricately designed silver tea service which belonged to her great grandmother, and a 200 year old Gaudy Welsh tea set originating from South Wales heritage. The many oriental keepsakes are reminiscent of Welling's travels in the Navy. An eclectic collection of Victorian and traditional furnishings are reflected throughout the inn.
