We welcome you to have a unique stay in Grand Junction in the home of
professional artist Damian Radice.
Over the years, this property has evolved into an artists' haven,
housing the studios of three local artists. Damian's pottery studio and
kiln yard offer guests the opportunity to learn about the art of pottery
making. During your stay, please visit the ceramics studio where you can
observe a stoneware or raku demonstration, or arrange a private lesson.
In addition, there are inviting spaces inside and out where guests
may relax, enjoy the art around them, read, watch TV or movies, or
snuggle by a warm fire. Coffee, tea, cold drinks and other refreshments
are provided in the afternoon, and we are happy to suggest superb local
restaurants for lunch and dinner.
Accommodation:
Main House:
With two bedrooms and two private baths, we are able to comfortably
accommodate couples, a small family or a single person. Each charming
bedroom is furnished with a queen bed, TV and VCR, and comfy robes. In
addition, there is a large living area and dining room for guests'
use. A full breakfast, complete with fresh, in-season fruits and
coffee brewed from locally roasted beans, awaits you each morning.
Chicken Coop:
The Coop is directly behind the Main House and gets its name from
the chicken house that once stood in its place. In the Coop, you will
find two bedrooms and one bath. There are two queen beds and two
twins, providing restful accommodations for up to six people. In
addition, the kitchen is equipped for any light meals you wish to
prepare during your stay. A continental breakfast consisting of
coffee, juice and rolls is provided each morning.
The Coop is also a terrific meeting place for clubs or small
business groups. Please inquire about rates and availability.
Accommodations available year-round.
Resident Artists:
Damian Radice:
For over 30 years I have been a studio artist, showing and selling
functional and fine art pottery both locally and nationally. A while
back I realized that, with the smooth, flawless forms of thrown
pottery, my functional pieces had begun to look machine made. I
marveled at the contrast between these pieces and the clay bodies they
had been formed from. As a result, I began creating what I call
"emerging" vessels and "rockpots" in order to show
the look and feel of the clay in its unformed state.
Liz Lynch:
My earliest sense of creating "art" began at an early age
when my artist parents wonderfully helped me discover color, form and
texture in everyday life. Hopefully the ongoing years have continued
to teach me that "creating art is not the big deal but sensing
life in a full way is indeed a big deal." This sensing of life
and humor in day-to-day happenings has led to many of the drawings and
interpretations found in my work today.
Mary Mansfield:
For the most part I am self-taught, meaning I have been obsessed
with learning how to achieve the expression of who I am. With the help
of many incredible artists and years of classes, the process has been
rewarding and enlightening. Having always done some kind of sculpture,
whether it is paper, metal, clay, or fabric, the process continues to
be the most important part. We all have something to communicate to
the world. It is the poetry of who we are and who we will all become.
After all, what else do we have to give? It is our purpose to reveal
ourselves.
Dawn Sagar:
I was raised in rural Colorado on a wheat and pinto bean farm near
Wellington. Many of my recurring artistic images are of the people and
the land I have known and loved my entire life. The images I am most
interested in are of an endangered variety; as our culture becomes
more suburban, our open spaces and farmland become more and more rare.
My formal education took place at St. Olaf College in Northfield,
Minnesota, where I graduated with honors with a BA in oil painting. I
have been working as an artist for over a decade. In addition to oils,
I have recently turned to soft pastels as a medium of choice. These
mediums work very well in my neo-impressionistic style.
Pottery Lessons:
Pottery Lessons are also available for 1 - 4 people. Each class is a
minimum of 2 hours.
Please ask for current rates. The rate will include all materials and
glazing, plus shipping and handling within the U.S.
