Find your sanctuary in the heart of Boulder.

Let us enrich your stay with quiet attention or lively conversation. Rest deeply in luxurious bedding. Enjoy fine teas and delicious food prepared with care. Find yourself among friends.

Welcome home to the Briar Rose.

The Briar Rose is run by Zen monks, Amy Robertson and Gary Hardin. It is our intention to bring mindfulness and compassion to our care for the guests and the inn. Above all, our hallmark is to offer a feeling of "home" in the heart of Boulder.

Our gardens offer a private retreat — for personal reflection, a warm conversation or simply enjoying the many different plants, flowers, trees and shrubs. The living room features a wood burning fireplace, and is an inviting spot for reading, meeting with friends, or enjoying a fine pot of tea with fresh baked shortbread cookies. Guests and staff may sit in our humble meditation room and listen to the small waterfall in the garden below. We serve a full, organic breakfast in our dining room or on the cheery sun porch, weather permitting. Arrangements can be made for in-room service.

We belong to two state bed and breakfast associations, the Distinctive Inns of Colorado, and the Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers of Colorado. Both feature high quality inns. We are inspected by AAA and are members of the Green Hotel Association, Colorado Hotel and Lodging Association, and the Professional Association of Innkeepers International.

Rooms:

All rooms feature:

  • air conditioning
  • free local or toll-free calls in the room
  • a full breakfast served either in-room or in the dining room
  • high-speed internet access via WIFI or USB (or low-speed via dialup)

Main House Rooms:

Honeymoon Room:

This large room features a queen bed, bath with rain shower, sitting area with drop-down leaf table, and wood burning fireplace. One of our most romantic rooms.

Anniversary Room:

Enjoy the wood burning fireplace from a private sitting area in this large room. An antique vanity serves well as a desk. Private bath features a rain shower, and the queen bed is placed in a separate alcove.

Poppy Room:

Our coziest room features a queen size bed, walk-in closet, and bath with tub and shower. Both inside and outside entrances provide easy access to our backyard sitting area.

Bow Room:

"Beau Room" might better describe this large room with queen bed and bath with tub and shower. The antique chaise lounge provides a wonderful place to snuggle up with a good book, or a significant other.

Twin Room:

Extra-long twin beds are great for siblings or friends traveling together. The bath has tub and shower, and an outside entrance gives great access to the back sitting area. This room can be configured with a king-size bed upon request.

Carriage House Accommodations:

The carriage house is just a few steps across a stone patio from the main house, and features two first floor rooms with private patios, and two second story rooms which share a balcony with comfy rocking chairs. All Carriage House rooms have cable TV.

Patio Rooms:

High fenced private patios are the perfect intimate spot to relax, and sliding glass doors open up these rooms with queen beds and rain showers in the bath.

Balcony Rooms:

Big windows and queen beds make these rooms wonderful for a romantic get away, but large tables with plenty of light provide work space for the business traveler. Rain showers in the bath.

Breakfast:

Guests start the day with a complete organic breakfast, including a fresh-fruit cup (we carefully select fresh fruits daily,) fresh baked sweet breads, yogurt with raspberries, an egg dish with toast, fresh orange juice, and our fantastic homemade granola. Organic coffee and tea are freshly brewed. Breakfast is served either in our dining room or on the cheery sun porch, weather permitting. Arrangements can be made for in-room service.

We intend to cater (where practical) to any dietary restrictions a guest may have. We do not serve meat at the inn.

Tea:

Tea trays are available throughout the day at no charge. We offer a wide selection of herbal and loose leaf green, and black teas, featured on our "wall of tea." We import teas directly from China, India and Japan, as well as a large selection from Celestial Seasonings (headquartered here in Boulder).

Selection varies but typically we offer a sencha, darjeeling, keemun, assam as well as the Earl Greys, English Breakfast and Irish Breakfast teas. Combined with homemade shortbread cookies, a Briar Rose tea tray is a delightful experience. Coffee, ice tea, lemonade, and filtered water are also served.

Green Hotel:

The innkeepers at the Briar Rose intend to encourage and promote ecological consciousness in every aspect of providing hospitality to our guests.

How we express this intention:

  • We serve an organic breakfast
  • We support the Boulder Co-op Market, a community-owned, vegetarian natural foods store, by purchasing the majority of our food there
  • We compost all of our biodegradable waste materials. Check out our compost bin in the southwest part of the lot! Organic waste decomposes aerobically in a compost bin producing carbon dioxide, and anaerobically in landfills. Anaerobic decomposition creates methane gas which causes more global warming than carbon dioxide.
  • We cut our lawn with a human-powered reel mower. The EPA estimates that gas-powered lawnmowers in the U.S. cause as much air pollution as 3.5 million late-model cars.
  • We run a 95 percent efficient gas furnace in the main house.
  • We use a high-efficiency front loading washing machine to wash all bedding and linens, and we do not use fabric-softening dryer sheets.
  • We use Ecocycle to recycle all our cans, bottles, plastics, batteries, and paper waste products.
  • We use environmentally friendly cleaning products from Eco-products and Seventh Generation.
  • We are the only member of the Green Hotel Association in Boulder county

Coming soon:

  • 100% use of paper containing recycled fiber for toilet and facial tissue, printer paper, stationary, and other paper products.
  • 100% renewable energy for our electricity usage.

The Briar Rose was named the "Exceptional Zero Waste Partner for 2004" by Eco-Cycle in the category of "Going Beyond Recycling with 100% Collection".
