These are some recognitions and comments received by
this historic (circa 1904) Bed & Breakfast Inn located one block
from the State Beach Park and ten minutes from Santa Barbara City
Center.
Prufrock’s is tucked between a magnificent mountain wilderness and the
ocean in a small community known for its flower fields and orchards.
Sixteen eateries, antique and garden shops, boutiques and more are
within three blocks.
Ride our bikes to explore ocean bluffs, mountain wilderness, salt marsh
park, and flower fields.
Profrocks has been featured in the 'Land's End'
catalog and now you have the opportunity to experience this wonderfully
romantic bed and breakfast yourself!
Prufrock's is a historic home that was completely
renovated before opening in 1995. Remodeling was designed to restore the
original integrity of the house and also make it functional as a Bed and
Breakfast Inn. The location is most desirable. It is away from the
freeway just one block from a beautiful beachside park and right in the
middle of main street charm. Guests can exit the front door for a
beautiful sunset walk on the beach or visit one of the many shops or
restaurants close by.
The Innkeepers:
Judy and Jim Halvorsen, owner/managers of the inn, were
raised in rural Iowa, meeting at ages nine and ten on a family farm.
They hold memories of a kind of hospitality often forgotten in a
fast-paced world. Aunt Edna made cookies that were the talk of the
neighbors. Neighbors visited neighbors and were warmly welcomed. When
someone was in need, those around stepped in to feed livestock, bail
hay, and harvest crops. Conversation focused on personal caring.
The small towns in their experience were hubs of local
activity. Friends browsed shops and then stopped by for coffee at the
corner cafe. Articles in the local paper focused more on the immediate
community than distant international issues. People cared about each
other and welcomed strangers. These experiences helped form an approach
to hospitality.
When Judy and Jim discovered Carpinteria, in the shadow
of Santa Barbara, it reminded them of these Iowa roots. Here, too people
stop to share personal conversation. Even though its setting is
beachfront, it provides a different experience than most 'typical' beach
towns. Several guests have commented that it is a ‘normal’ small
town that just happens to be on one of the most beautiful beaches in
southern California. And as an added bonus, it is ten minutes to the
elegance of Santa Barbara city center.
Rooms:
Afternoon Delight:
Delightful afternoons are just a part of the
experience waiting in this two-room Jacuzzi suite. Mornings begin with
melodious bird songs from the surrounding garden. Evenings often end
as the embers die out in the fireplace on your personal patio. The
Queen bedroom has a feeling of seclusion, while the sitting room with
queen sofa bed enjoys breezes through the double-casement windows and
Dutch-doors. Two patios provide additional space when family or
friends share the suite. You'll have memories from throughout a day
enjoyed in "Afternoon Delight". Private Jacuzzi bath
Evening Shade:
Evening shade is a compliment to mornings in which sun
streams through high windows accenting a vaulted wood ceiling. A
Jacuzzi tub waits as a starter in the morning or for repose at days
end. A personal garden patio provides a fireplace and porch swing for
singing with the birds or relaxed conversation. The deluxe queen bed
and beautiful quilts with matching curtains are reminiscent of a time
when care was shown in every detail. Private Jacuzzi bath
Garden Hideaway:
This secluded room provides a romantic retreat to its
guests. Find refuge in a cozy sitting room with an antique daybed and
garden views. Escape to the gardens through the French doors and enjoy
the view from your personal porch with bistro table. Sneak into the
dining room and grab treats to enjoy on the porch or by the living
room fireplace. The decor in this room is rich, with sea blues and
navy combined with rose berry accents and floral garlands. Deluxe
Queen Bed and private bath with tub and shower
Village Charm:
Romance and charm abound in this room. A claw-foot tub
peeks from behind an antique screen, which compliments the quilt of
forest and cranberry hues. An array of flowers adorns the
stepping-stone walk leading to your entry. Absorb the comings and
goings of the village street from your window or revel in the mountain
views from the bistro table on your garden porch. Deluxe Queen Bed and
private bath with antique claw foot tub
Cottage Trellis:
This tranquil room provides a view of the gardens and
the green and rose-colored decor draws the garden inside. A vanity
with a hand-stitched needlepoint bench accentuates the colors in the
quilt on the queen-sized bed. A table for two at the window welcomes
you to afternoon tea or morning coffee. Sneak out to the buffet in the
dining room and grab some snacks. You might choose to enjoy them by
the cozy fireplace in the living room. Private bath with shower
Mountain View:
The view from this room provides nurturing for the
soul. Palms line the street and the backdrop of purple mountains is
spectacular. A private sitting room hidden under the eaves adds an
intimate touch to this room of ivory and country-blue decor. Slanted
ceilings and a ceiling fan speak to a bygone era. Mountain View
includes a deluxe queen-bed, a daybed, and a personal dressing area
with lavatory and mirror. This upstairs room shares a full bath with
tub and shower.
Ocean Breeze:
This room will lift your spirits with its cheerful
decor. Sunlight streams in and slanted ceilings add a special charm as
the ceiling fan moves ocean breezes. The queen-sized bed is cozily
dressed with an ocean-blue and white quilt, accented by white Batten
burg lace. Enjoy coffee at your sitting table or read on the day bed
tucked in the corner. This upstairs room shares a full bath with tub
and shower.
