Las Nenas B&B is a cozy and private bed and breakfast located in the
small medieval town of Jafre, one of the many medieval towns that dot
the province of Girona in northeast Catalunya, Spain near the Costa
Brava.
The small town is surrounded by fields and forests, perfect for
rambling, close to all the resorts, yet tranquil. The house itself is a
typical casa de poble -- house in the town -- dating back to the early
18th century, yet recently restored.
Rooms:
The house features 3 double non-smoking rooms to rent:
Núria:
Núria is a shady double room with trees and birds to lull you to
rest.
Maria Juanita:
Maria Juanita is a large double room with a window overlooking the
patio garden, the scent of the rose arbor floating in as you take a
break in your private seating area.
Laura:
Laura is a bright and colorful double room with a view over the Ter
river valley.
All rates include breakfast.
The 3 rooms share 2 baths. Guests are free to use the 2 salons, the
dining room and a large, sunny garden. Breakfast is continental
featuring local sausages and cheeses, as well as coffee, tea, cereals,
yogurt, pastries and fruit. Breakfast is served between 9am and 11am,
checkout time is noon, and check-in time is 3pm to 5pm.
There are 2 sweet dogs and a lap loving cat, to keep you company if
you wish.
Cooking Classes:
Las Nenas is happy to host cooking classes, wine and olive oil
tasting, special lunches, dinners, evening cocktails, and even pack a
picnic basket for your day away.
Please contact us for Special Gourmet package rates or to discuss how
we can assist your plans for the most enjoyable stay. We do need
advanced notice of at least one day to confirm any special services. We
can negotiate this by telephone or email if you want to confirm for the
first or second day of your stay.
Katy Ross and Martha Kroncke -- Las Nenas -- started working in
kitchens in the United States at tender ages. Because of this
background, they incorporate the culinary arts into the daily life of
the inn. After travelling extensively, they chose the small town of
Jafre, Girona-Catalunya, as the perfect place to begin a new venue.
From their bed & breakfast they offer cooking classes, and wine
and olive oil tasting. Their collective experience of over 40 years
includes years of teaching at the California Culinary Academy and stints
at various high profile restaurants in San Francisco: Chez Panisse,
China Moon, One Market, Vertigo, and Venezia.
Cooking Classes:
Often there are informal barbecues on the terrace with groups
observing and learning as they cook. Las Nenas teach many styles of
cooking. Catalan and Spanish dishes, such as paella, will be
interesting for those exploring the area. For the adventurous, there
are also classes in Asian cuisines and Latin cuisines. Guests then eat
on the patio in good weather or in the dining room if too hot or cold.
An ideal class size is 3 - 4 adults, with 6 being the maximum. The
classes ideally begin at 11am with lunch at 1:30pm. Las Nenas need
confirmation of the class the day before, so that they can prepare.
Tastings:
Wine or olive oil tasting can be hosted for up to 8 adults, and can
be tailored for any type of wines or oils available in Spain. Katy and
Martha feature whites and rosés in the summer, and hearty reds in
wintertime (or a combination of all of them). If the group is larger
than 8 people, a wonderful wine store in Girona -- Eno-teca -- can
host the tastings. Las Nenas have their wines for sale at the inn. At
least one day prior notice is necessary for these tastings.
Meals:
Dinners are available with prior notice and include 4 courses, wine
and water. Prices depend on wine selection and menu. We start with a
pica-pica (traditional Spanish nibbles), appetizer, entrée, dessert
and then coffee and an after dinner drink. You can request any type of
cuisine or type of food. Special dietary needs such as vegetarian,
macrobiotic, seafood only, or international dishes can be met.
However, with this there may be an additional surcharge.
Location:
Las Nenas is located in the town of Jafre, in the golden triangle of
northeastern Catalunya. Nestled between the sea and the mountains, Jafre
is a perfect central location to base your exploration of this beautiful
rural area.
Around the town are extensive biking trails, as well as local and
regional hiking trails. By car, you are only minutes away from the
beaches, the scuba and boat tours of the Islas Medes. Thirty minutes to
the north are the attractions of Cap de Creus, with the lovely town of
Cadaqués, and the ancient monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes.
Jafre is also in the center of the Dalí triangle, which comprises
the museum created by Dalí in Figueres, his home in Port Lligat, and
the home he designed for his wife Gala in the castle of Púbol.
Just to the west is the city of Girona with its many museums and
sights, and to the north, the Pyrenees, both Spanish and French.
Among the many cultural and natural attractions you will be able to
discover, we recommend:
Alt Empordà. Cap de Creus, Port Lligat (Dalí's home and art
studio) and Sant Pere de Rodes romanesque monastery and museum.
The Mediterranean. Kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, seafood and
sun.
Relax. Golf, walking and biking tours, horseback riding.
Wine tours. Discover the wine regions of the Alt Empordà, Penedès
and Priorat.
Barcelona. Take a stress free train ride to the bustling city,
return for a quiet night in the countryside.
France. Perpignan, Colliure and many Cathar castles are just an
hour drive away.
