El Recés is a 15th century rural hotel, recently renovated to a high specification.

El Recés is situated in the medieval village of Corçà, between Girona & the coast. Part of the house is above the Portal Santa Maria, the old village East Gate and passageway.

Previously the house was owned by an artist who opened the ground floor as an art gallery each summer. Architect Josep Ferrés Marcó and stonemasons Cordon y Carrillo completed careful restoration of the house in 2003 for owners Julie Gillett and Jane Fernley.

Ensuite rooms have their own individual character, with terraces, balconies and patios. There is one suite & all are spacious enough for 'family' rooms.

Bathrooms have a contemporary design, combining rustic stone and marble with the highest specification fittings. The original well now houses a glass-bottomed shower.

The lounge and terraces are on the top floors, affording delightful views over the village and surrounding countryside. The lounge has English satellite TV and DVD facilities.

Corçà is perfectly located in the midst of all the golf courses and within 20 minutes of Girona City and the coast.

Barcelona is easily reached by train or car for day trips.

El Recés is open all year including Christmas & New Year.

Activities:

Horse Riding:

Local stables cater for the novice - experienced riders. Lessons can be booked on a group or individual basis. Rides by the hour – day treks to the coast.

Watersports:

The best diving can be found off the Medes Islands. Lessons can be booked on a day or weekly basis. Also windsurfing, water-skiing, sailing, kayaking.

Boat Trips:

View the sea life around the Medes Islands in a glass bottom boat and have a go at snorkeling. Cruise along the coast to Roses & Cadeques on a daytime or evening trip.

Waterparks:

Aquadiver Water Park at Platja d’Aro.

Skiing:

The ski resort Vallter 2000 is at the start of the Pyrenees. Great for a day trip - 90 minutes by car. All ski equipment can be hired & lessons pre booked.

Walking:

The best costal walks can be found along the cliffs close to Begur & Palafrugell. Countryside walks from village to village. Follow the signposts which include ‘km’.

Cycling:

Extensive signposted routes throughout the Baix Emporda. Flat or mountain rides for all levels of cyclist. The old disused railway lines ‘greenways’ are also popular, routes include, Girona-Olot & Girona-Sant Feliu de Guixols.

Quad Bikes:

Gualta Quads offer excursions for adults & children.

Golf Lessons:

Jane Fernley, PGA Golf Professional.

At amateur level, played county golf for Cornwall, winning both the County and South West Championships.

After representing England, turned professional to compete on the Ladies European Tour.

In 1991, joined Chesfield Downs GC in Hertfordshire as Club Professional and developed a busy Teaching Academy, specialising in Golf Schools.

County Coach and Consultant Professional to the Golf Foundation, developing National Coaching Schemes and Initiatives.

Hourly lessons for individuals or groups can be booked privately with Jane.

From Girona Airport:

• Take NII towards Girona North (França)

From the NII:

Take the exit C66 Celra/Palamos (just off the roundabout there is a slip road for Celra/Palamos)

From the A7:

Take Junction 6 exit C66 Celra/Palamos. Stay on this road till you get to Corçà 15 – 20 minutes. If you reach La Bisbal you have gone too far. You will pass through Bordills & Flaçà, when you reach the next traffic lights you are at Corçà (El Reces is signposted to the left). Turn left into village & then take right fork into Carrer Major, away from village square and church. El Reces is about 300 metres along on the left – no. 28.

Ryanair have daily flights into Girona from many European towns & cities:

UK: Bournemouth, Dublin, East Midlands, Glasgow Prestwick, Liverpool, London Stansted.

Europe: Baden, Brussels, Eindhoven, Frankfurt, Maastricht, Milan, Paris, Rome, Turin, Venice.

On the Ryanair main menu click the ‘Book Now’ option to check for flights. For availability, put in your departure airport + Girona (Barcelona) with your preferred dates. If these flights are not suitable, click the ‘previous day’ & ‘next day’ buttons to find a suitable flight.

Baggage Allowance: This is quite strict on the low cost airlines. Golf clubs must be booked onto flights in advance and there will be a small fee.

Barcelona Airport: The main city airport, located on the south side of Barcelona has flights from most major airports. Corçà is approximately 90 minutes from the airport.

Hertz Cars can be pre-booked through the Ryanair website when you book your flight. Put in the dates & type of car to get a price quote. If you have difficulty with booking, we will be happy to assist with quotes from other hire car companies.

Transfers:

Airport & local transfers are available. Please ask for details of cars & minibuses for groups of up to 8 persons.

Trains:

Girona to Flaça (Flaça 5 minutes taxi to Corçà) Barcelona Airport to Figueres stops at Flaça.

Buses:

Girona Airport to Palamos stops at Corçà.
