along the world famous Garden Route. The main road which passes through
George continues along the coast and another route heads north over the
Outeniqua mountains towards the Little Karoo town of Oudtshoorn.
The town of George is situated at the base of the Outeniqua mountains
and is situated on a coastal plateau about 8 kilometers from the coast
and is one of the starting or finishing points for one of the most
spectacular railway journeys in the world. The Outeniqua Choo Tjoe is
pulled by a vintage steam locomotive. The train ride takes you over
amazingly beautiful forested hills, past serene inland lakes and across
high bridges that will take your breath away as you pass over raging
river.
