Enjoy warm hospitality, comfortable accommodation and a peaceful
place where you can unwind and rejuvenate both your body and soul.
Pennygum is an ideal base to explore the Southern Drakensberg of
South Africa. You will find us in the 6.5 km from Underberg, on the
Drakensberg Garden Road.
Our three garden cottages have a beautiful setting with magnificent
views of the mountains and a peaceful country atmosphere. Our largest
cottage sleeps up to 10 people and the two smaller cottages sleep two
adults in each. They are all tastefully decorated and are serviced
daily.
Our Three Cottages:
All linen is provided for bed and breakfast guests. Self catering guests are
required to bring their own towels, although all other bed linen is
provided.
There are laundry facilities, undercover parking and babysitters. We
enjoy a peaceful and secure environment, which our guests find very
refreshing.
With prior notice other meals and picnic baskets can be arranged.
Rondawel, Lavender flatlet don't have baths or fireplaces. The
Rondawel does not have a TV. There are shared bathrooms in the Family
cottage.
Family Cottage:
Our Family Cottage is double story, with its own entrance and
garden area. There are three double bedrooms and a dormitory room,
which sleeps four people. The cottage has two bathrooms and a modern
open plan kitchen with electric appliances. The lounge has an open
fireplace and a television with satellite channels. Enjoy a braai on
the verandah with magnificent berg views and a peaceful country
atmosphere.
Rondavel:
Our Rondavel sleeps two adults. It has the comfort and atmosphere
of a thatched roof together with a large grass mat to add comfort.
There is an ensuite shower and toilet. There are snack facilities in
the room, which include a bar fridge, toaster and sandwich maker.
Braai facilities are available. Electric blankets are supplied during
winter in addition to blankets and duvets.
Lavender Cottage:
The Lavender Cottage is a cozy flatlet, which is attractively
decorated in this theme and sleeps two adults and a young child. It
has self catering facilities and is equipped with a tabletop electric
stove, a bar fridge and other basic necessary appliances, crockery and
cutlery. There is a television in the bedroom with satellite channels
and there is an ensuite shower and toilet. As with the other two
cottages, this one leads into the garden where there are braai
facilities.
The Underberg District:
The Ukhahlamba-Drakensberg Park has recently been declared a World
Heritage Site. View San Rock Art sites and explore this nature
wonderland with its many rare plants and endangered fauna.
The Underberg district is of course famous for its fly fishing and we
specialize in whitewater rafting adventures on the Umzimkhulu River for
our guests.
Activities:
We offer personal itineraries for our guests, so that you can make
the most of your holiday.
River rafting is a very popular activity at Pennygum. Experience the
clean mountain water and beautiful scenery. There are trips to suit both
the inexperienced and the more adventurous. Subject to enough water,
this is something not to be missed!
A trip up Sani Pass into Lestho is well worth it. There are several
tour operators who conduct trips up the Pass on a daily basis. Please
bring your passports.
A good experience is to take a rock art walk and discover the culture
and paintings of the Bushmen and the caves they lived in. Half and full
day walks are available.
There are numerous hikes into the berg, horse rides in the foothills
and you even go on game drives – see zebra, wildebeest, most of the
antelope and numerous water birds.
The Underberg / Himeville area is well known for its trout fishing.
Most of the dams in the area are registered with the Underberg Himeville
Trout Fishing Club. Bookings can be made 24 hours ahead of time.
Let us know what your interests are and we will draw up an itinerary
to suit you and your family.
