About Durban:
Durban is a year round, sub-tropical paradise whose Zulu name is
Tekweni. Durban is the ancestral home of the Nguni people.
Durban derives its European name though from Sir Benjamin D'Urban,
governor of the Cape Colony at the time of the first successful colonial
settlement in 1835. Since then, Durban has been colonized by the Dutch
and then English traders.
The first Europeans to have seen the bay around which Durban has been
built was probably the crew of Vasco De Gama's ship, who in 1497 were
sailing to India on their pioneering voyage.
Today, Durban is the largest and busiest port city in Africa, as a
result, there is an extensive road network leading to and from any
destination in South Africa.
Durban is famous for its mild, sunny winter climate and year round
"fun-in-the-water" weather. Durban is blessed with an
abundance of vegetation and a subtropical climate with sunshine for at
least 320 days a year. Temperatures range from 16°C and 25°C during
the winter months of June, July and August. Summer temperatures can
reach 32°C with relatively high humidity during the hot season.
Dolphin Coast:
About 30 minutes north of Durban is where you will find The Dolphin
Coast.
It is here that not only will you find beautiful beaches, but also
magical encounters with bottle nose dolphins who will frolic in the
waves and feed in the shallows.
A little further out, beyond the breakers, you will see Humpback
whales en route north to the breeding grounds off Mozambique!
The Dolphin Coast shoreline is a perfect combination of golden
beaches and sheltered coves. Here you can enjoy both water sports and
sun bathing.

you to see abundant wildlife and bird species.
