Cape Point:
Cape Point is the most southwesterly point in Africa. It is here that you will find the Cape of Good Hope, the cape that all early sailors feared.
Cape Point is situated in the 7,750 hectare Cape Peninsula National
Park. All visitors to South Africa should visit Cape Point for its
natural beauty, fresh air, flora and fauna.
Cape Point is a birdwatcher's paradise with at least 250 bird species
found here. There are also approximately 1,100 indigenous plant species,
some of which, are found nowhere else! In the park you will also find a
variety of buck, baboons and other animals.
There are numerous scenic walks and trails available. Many people
come here for angling and diving. Others come here to experience one of
the highest sea cliffs in the world at 249 meters above sea level.
Still, others come here for the whale and dolphin watching from May to
November. Some though prefer to go swimming at Bordjiesrif and Buffel
Bay tidal pools.
For those interested in history, especially nautical history, then
Cape Point provides a source for 26 recorded shipwrecks. It is at Cape
Point that the cold Beguela current on the West coast
and the warm Agulhus current on the East coast merge. It was the brave
sailors who were able to circumnavigate the Cape of Good Hope that led
to the establishment of a sea route to the East and subsequent trade.
There are historical monuments including the Diaz and Da Gama crosses
along with old lighthouses.
At Cape Point, you will enjoy fresh air straight from Antarctica
as well as the cleanest ocean waters. The Two Oceans Restaurant provides
world class cuisine and spectacular views of False Bay. A perfect way to
end your day at Cape Point.
