Amanzimtoti beach, a little bit further north of us (approximately 100 km), is a popular location for its safe swimming and numerous other activities and attractions.

Between between Umkomaas and the Wild Coast is where you will find The Hibiscus Coast. The largest resort town along this coast is Margate which is near to our location. Margate is very popular during the holidays. The Hibiscus Festival is held in July.

For the nature lover, The Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve is a must see. This reserve encompasses forest, rivers, rapids and ravines. This is a bird watcher's paradise! The bird life is prolific to say the least. In the reserve you will find many bird species including five kingfisher species and seven eagle species which along with a variety of other animals.

Another place known for its safe swimming Port Edward (to the south of us). In addition, Port Edward also provides good fishing opportunities. Umthamvuna Nature Reserve is nearby too. This reserve is especially noted for its beautiful scenery, bird life and many rare plant species.

Each year, at the end of June, Sardine fever strikes the South Coast! People flock to the beaches to scoop them up, while anglers wait for the game fish to arrive.

In Shelly Beach you will find The Shell Museum. This museum is well worth a visit for the large display of shells.

Other popular coastal towns include Port Shepstone, St Michael's-on-Sea, Uvongo and Scottburgh.

It's Official!

Hibiscus South Coast boasts best beaches!

Three of the eight beaches in South Africa which have been awarded Blue Flag status are on the Hibiscus Coast.

Margate Beach is within walking distance of the guesthouse, Ramsgate Beach is less than 2 kilometers away and Marina Beach is approximately 15 kilometers from us.

The Blue Flag award is an internationally recognized emblem of excellence awarded to beaches that have met stringent criteria, set by an international panel. Blue Flag status endorse the fact that beaches will offer superior facilities, including facilities for the disabled, high safety standards, cleanliness and are also ecologically sound.
