Hawke’s Bay.
We welcome you to our home, “Raureka”, situated in a

Britain, Europe, Asia and the United States.

Award-Winning Wineries:
Raureka is situated in Hawke’s Bay, one of New
Zealand’s most successful grape-growing and winemaking regions. It’s
premium red wines have been recognized internationally as amongst the
best in the world.
There are dozens of boutique wineries situated within a
10km radius of Raureka, many also offering fine gourmet food produced by
some of the country’s most sought after chefs. Visitors can soak up
the atmosphere in one of the many cafes and restaurants - or dine
alfresco amidst the vineyards, orchards and olive plantations. You can
drive yourself to vineyards, and enjoy free tasting, or join one of the
professional wine tours. A bicycle tour of the nearby “Ngatarawa”
region wineries is available.
Outdoor Adventures:
For those keen golfers, we are only minutes away from
one of New Zealand’s top-rated golf courses. We are regular players
ourselves, and can organize your golfing requirements if you wish.
For the energetic, Hawke’s Bay offers just about every
outdoor adventure you can imagine - from jet-boating between wineries,
to hot air ballooning, caving, paragliding, windsurfing and trout
fishing.
Boutique Shopping:
Just 10 minutes from Raureka, is the “village” of
Havelock North, one of New Zealand’s most affluent towns which
features a range of excellent boutique shops, cafes, restaurants - and
more wineries! You could also check out the legendary Te Mata Peak and
take in some hang-gliding action.
Beach Bumming:
Beach lovers read on … You can surf, fish
- or just lie about on Hawke’s Bay’s sun drenched, white sand
beaches. Waimarama and Ocean Beach, which stretch for miles and miles,
are situated about 20 minutes east of Havelock North.
Art Deco Delights:
While you’re in Hawke’s Bay, you have
the opportunity to visit the Art Deco capital of the world, Napier. Situated
only 20km from Raureka, Napier is ‘famous’ for the history-making
1931 earthquake which virtually destroyed the entire city center, with a
loss of 258 lives. After the earthquake, the city was rebuilt in the
styles fashionable at that time, including Spanish Mission and Art Deco
- the major style of the early 20th Century.
Today Napier has one of the highest
concentrations of Art Deco architecture in the world, and attracts
visitors from every corner of the globe. In 1999, the city hosted the 5th
World Art Deco Congress. Visitors can take a tour of Napier with an
expert guide and relive the spirit of ‘moderne’ era, or you can
explore the city on your own using the Art Deco Walk leaflet.
Gannets Galore:
For something a little different, you can visit
Napier’s Cape Kidnappers - host to one of the largest, most accessible
Gannet colonies in the world. Administered by the Department of
Conservation, this area presents a special opportunity for a close-up
view of this relative of the pelican in its natural environment.
There are a variety of tours available to the Gannets -
along the beach or over private farming land. The season at Cape
Kidnappers runs between October and late April, with the best time for
viewing between early November and late February.
