Fresh Egg Retreat is a secluded rural bed & breakfast/homestay in the heart of the Wairarapa, a two-hour drive from New Zealand's capital city of Wellington.

Newly renovated and furnished, Fresh Egg Retreat offers you a choice of two guest rooms, six acres of private bush surrounded by regenerating forest, complimentary homemade biscuits in your room, and espresso, cappuccino, or soft drinks in our lounge or on our large deck. We are just minutes from Castlepoint Beach and a short drive to the other delights of the Wairarapa.

After an afternoon at the beach or just lying on our veranda, have a casual evening highlighted by a five-course gourmet dinner in the Fresh Egg dining room.

The Boston Room:

This large guest room is furnished with antique oak and brass. The room contains a queen bed, bureau with mirror, rocking chair, and assorted curiosities, with an ensuite for your privacy.

The Cape Cod Room:

Our other large guest room, this room is furnished in a modern, light style evocative of the coast of the northeastern USA. The room contains a queen bed and bureau with mirror, plus a small sitting area. An ensuite ensures your privacy.

The Lounge:

A spacious, inviting room filled with ways to add relaxation to your stay. Nap in an overstuffed chair, or rock in the warmth of the cozy open fireplace in our antique birds-eye maple rocking chair. Read one of our hundreds of books or magazines, play a tune on the piano, or select an enticing movie to watch from our large video collection. The lounge opens directly onto the wraparound veranda, for lovely views of the surrounding Wairarapa hill country.

• The Fitness Room: Stay in shape while on holiday! In our complete home gym you will find all you need to maintain your fitness routine. It features a multi-weight station and weight bench, as well as cardiovascular equipment such as a rower, elliptical cross trainer, and upright stationary bicycle. But don't worry, if you choose not to take advantage of the Fresh Egg gym, we won't make you feel guilty!
• The Sauna: After your workout -- or after just being lazy -- eliminate your stress in our clothing-optional Finnish sauna. There's no better way to cleanse your skin, relax your body, and empty your mind. Inhale the eucalyptus and let your problems dissolve. You deserve it.
• Swimming Pool: Reinvigorate yourself in our pool, or just lie on our deck with a good book or a good daydream. A refreshing alternative to the beach, or an excuse to show off your new swimsuit, or just another place to take an afternoon nap -- it's available for you whatever your reason.

Directions to Fresh Egg Retreat:

Follow national highway 2 north or south to Masterton. At the north end of Masterton, where the highway crosses the Waipoua River (a Mobil petrol station is on the corner), turn onto the Te Ore Ore Road, which becomes the main Masterton-Castlepoint road. There is a sign stating "Castlepoint 64km, Riversdale 54km". Exactly 35.7km from the Highway 2 turnoff, look for the sign for the Mangapakeha Conservation Nursery. Immediately (0.25km) beyond this sign, the main road curves to the right, and Bute Road continues straight ahead. Fresh Egg Retreat is 3.7km down Bute Road, on the left.
