At last! A lodge that's truly boutique.
This wise old grand lady of Remuera made of solid Kauri
and Rimu native hardwoods, quietly beckons the weary traveler.
Whilst maintaining perfect composure with just a hint of
a twinkle in her eye, she suggests, "Stay a night, two or three and
come into a world within Auckland that's delightfully different".
Not a bed and breakfast homestay nor an impersonal large hotel.
Something private, different, special - with character, ambience and a
colourful history.
A stunning 1890's historic villa set in a magical
garden. Located in chic, stylish Remuera. Just minutes away from a
myriad of Auckland's' finest activities, theatres, shopping, galleries,
restaurants, parks, cafes, downtown Auckland & the waterfront. We
are close to Newmarket & Parnell, bus & train routes.
The Devereux provides you with a quiet, peaceful and a
special presence that only a grand old restored villa could have.
Our ten, beautifully decorated rooms, all with a
different country theme & unique decor collected from around the
world are going to excite and amaze you.
We provide modern facilities - TV, direct dial phones,
snack & drinks fridge, room service, internet connections, guests
business center along with intimate meeting facilities.
Breakfast is served in the conservatory or alfresco by
the fountain.
Master Suites:
Luxuriously spacious double/twin room. King/Super King
beds. Extra bed/chaise lounge in some rooms. Luxury en suite bathroom
with bath & shower. Some have old-fashioned claw-foot bath and
others a spa bath.
Antigua:
The intense colours reflect the busy streets of
Antigua... typically filled with carved wooden objects d'art, lots of
ornamental angels and baskets of fruit, flowers and vegetables.
Charlotte Devereux's special room! Every item of
furniture and decoration was hand picked on her trips to Guatemala.
You can just imagine any minute a smiling Guatemalan child popping out
of one of the colourful traditional decorations.
Tuscany:
Grand Tuscan style centered around a huge rough brick
fireplace and 4-poster wrought iron bedstead.
Tall bay windows with curtains that go on forever
reaching to the high grand ceiling. A large historical room
characteristic of a Tuscan villa. In the old days, somewhere around
the turn of the century, our Tuscany room apparently was used as an
intimate private ballroom.
Zambezi:
Africa! Exotic, wild, wide open spaces and 'Dr
Livingstone' I presume!
Zebra print cushions and throws. A bamboo four poster
bed and canvas hanging wardrobe takes you on a safari to the heart of
Africa. You can hear the bush calling and in the distance the sound of
the mighty Victoria falls. Laze dreamily in the old-fashioned
claw-foot bath sipping a gin and tonic before a splendid evening meal
with the colonials.
Executive Suites:
Spacious double/twin/triple room. King/Super King or 2
single beds. Extra bed / couch in some rooms. En suite shower bathroom.
Orient:
"I bought it from a shop owner who surely thought
I was going to be a Japanese bride because it took me hours to try on
Kimono after Kimono"
The antique opium bed head sets the scene for this
gentle and exquisite room. Designer's recollections... "It took
weeks for me to search for the perfect fabric that would enhance but
not take over the magnificent bead head. The cushions on the couch
were made from an old Kimono sash. I bought it from a shop owner who
surely thought I was going to be a Japanese bride because it took me
hours to try on Kimono after Kimono - what fun! The cupboard was
decoupaged with rice paper and Chinese New Year paper". Wander
through to the separate balcony sunroom sit down on one of the floor
cushions and take tea!
Taj:
Imagine a hot Indian day, a slight breeze in the
evening and these soft flowing curtains serenely stroking the heat of
the day away...
The largest room in the hotel - reminiscent of the Taj
Mahal. An exquisite chaos of colour that somehow oozes serenity.
Designers self brief. "Create colour in the room - curtains must
be made of silk saris of vivid colours, reaching to the top of the
high ceiling". Imagine a hot Indian day, a slight breeze in the
evening and these soft flowing curtains serenely stroking the heat of
the day away.
Designers self-brief continued. "I chose the
largest room in the hotel for the Taj - I wanted it to be of Grandness
and Opulence - a true Taj experience".
Rangitoto:
Good grief, was that a sheep I just saw wander past
the door?
Our boutique hotel would not be complete without a New
Zealand room. A lovely roomy and airy feel complete with a separate
balcony sunroom. You can even see Rangitoto island out of one of the
windows!
Suites:
Generously sized double room, queen bed, en suite shower
bathroom.
Bodrum:
Rich Turkish colours of rusts, blues & ochre.
Enter this Turkish carpet shop and sip apple tea
whilst indulging in friendly haggling with the owner over the purchase
of a Persian rug. Rich Turkish colours of rusts, blues and ochre. 'I
am sure there's something mysterious behind those doors with small
dark decorative peeping holes in them'!
Cairo:
An Egyptian head on top of the mantle piece and
papyrus prints on the walls are a shrine to this ancient land and
people.
Gheza and the pyramid of Cheops beckon you to enter
and stay a while. There's history and mystery here amidst the simple
cream and gold decor. An Egyptian head on top of the mantle piece and
papyrus prints on the walls are a shrine to this ancient land and
people.
Provence:
Vive la France!
Serene creams and beige emanate classic French chic
with a slightly rustic feel. From the classical chaise lounge to the
French doors leading out to a little balcony - this could only be
Provence.
South Pacific:
Pacific islands - gently lapping waves, seashells,
coral lagoons.
You can hear the waves gently rolling onto the
seashore as you lie in bed and slowly fall asleep as tropical
fragrances waft through the warm night air. Hand woven baskets, carved
wooden boxes and a drift wood table completes your exotic island
haven. A pinã colada cocktail is not included but can be arranged!
Your Hosts:
The Devereux Boutique Hotel was lovingly renovated and
redecorated to it's former glory by the effervescent Charlotte Devereux,
its delightful previous owner.
The Devereux's present custodians are Peter and Jenni
Mony and their three daughters, Nicole, Jessica and Melissa. Together
with our dedicated team, our vision and mission is clear: "The
Devereux will continue to impress and delight visitors to Auckland with
value for money accommodation that is memorable, delightfully different
and something special".
