Borgo Santa Maria is a vacation resort consisting of four rural
houses.
Each of the houses has been carefully and accurately restored. The
houses were been built of brick and stones centuries ago. All of the
houses have an Umbrian style architecture.
After finishing all of the restoration and renovation work, we
decided to give each of the nine apartments a name
evoking its function in the past.
The fascination of the old rural houses can be felt upon entering the
houses, whose walls are characterized by warm and mellow colors which
creates a special atmosphere.
The original wood beams in the ceilings of each apartment provides you with a feeling of living centuries ago. The atmosphere of the living rooms, with their original
terracotta floors, old brick fireplaces and old restored furniture, is
warm and inviting.
The kitchens have built-in cabinets decorated with ceramic tiles.
The interior doors, as in the old rural tradition, have iron latches
in place of the more modern handles. The furnishings are completed by
colored curtains, which give an unusual light and by framed pictures and
hanging crafts, which will catch your attention.
In addition to the details of the old tradition, the structure offers
many modern comforts such as appliances, a safe, double-pane windows,
satellite TV and decentralized heating.
The resort is about 800 meters from the town of Santa Maria, where
you can find a supermarket, newspapers, a pharmacy, pizzeria and
restaurants. Banks, post office and railway station are located in Fabro
Scalo, about 4 km from Borgo Santa Maria.

What To Do:
Borgo Santa Maria is the ideal place where you can practice a wide
choice of relaxing, funny, cultural or sport activities:
There are interesting itineraries to discover the traditional clay
workmanship. In Ficulle (8 km away), clay is used to make vases.
Meanwhile, in Castelviscardo (20 km away), the town is famous for
producing handmade bricks and tiles.
For those who are interested in wine-making we suggest the famous
Tuscan and Umbrian wine roads, very closed to Borgo Santa Maria. We also
offer our guests guided visits to important wine producers in Orvieto
where they will try good wine and will receive information about the
full wine production, from the cultivation of the grapes until the final
result of it, the great wine of Orvieto.
Another typical product of the region is the truffle. The fair of
black and white truffle is a tradition for Fabro. We can organize visits
to the shop Voglie di Bosco, where superb truffle handmade sauces are
produced.
In November, oil presses are opened in Città della Pieve, Ficulle
and Monteleone d'Orvieto. At this time of the year, extra virgin olive
oil is produced and free bruschetta is offered to the guests who can buy
the new oil.
At a few kilometers further away from Borgo Santa Maria is an
equestrian center where horse rides along river Chiani are organized.
In San Casciano (18 km away), you can do a wide variety of thermal
therapies. A wonderful swimming pool with hot sulphur water (42 C
degrees) has recently been opened.
For golf players the closest course is on Trasimeno lake, at
Lamborghini's. At Marmore water falls, you can try raft boats or rowing
to have an adventurous experience on river Nera.
In autumn and especially spring, you can take wonderful walks through
our forests following the nice paths created by our mountain community.
In Alviano (38 km away), inside the Park of River Tevere you can
enjoy bird watching on all weekends from September and May.
Other activities include:
- Football, volleyball
- Table tennis board, bowls ground
- Small fishing lake at our guests disposal
- Bikes rental for quiet rides in the neighbourhood or for the
braves, on more difficult roads
- Swimming pool and green area where you can relax, sunbathe or have
a rest under the shadow of our gazebos
Where To Eat:
We can suggest many restaurants, trattorie and taverns, within a few
miles of Borgo Santa Maria, where you can sample typical Tuscan and
Umbrian dishes and recipes made from simple, healthy ingredients such as
olive oil, cheese, salami, truffles and mushrooms, all accompanied by
the best local wines.
Borgo Santa Maria is only half an hour driving away from the famous
restaurant of a world known Italian chef, Gianfranco Vissani, on lake
Corbara.
Il Girasole is only 800 meters and is a great source for very good
food at reasonable prices. We can suggest other nice restaurants and
pizzerias as well that are also good.
