Benvenuto...
Residence Santa Chiara is an ancient bourgeois
house built in the second half of the 6th century in the historical
center of Lucca inside the medieval boundaries.
The Residence is found in front of the suggestive gardens of Bottini
Villas, once residence of Elisa Bonaparte (sibling of Napoleon
Bonaparte), and where today, in the summer period, numerous cultural and
musical events are hosted that pleasantly animate the evenings lucchesi.
From here you can reach by foot, in few minutes, all the principal
historical attractions of the city such as the Roman amphitheater, the
tower Guinigi, S. Michele plaza and the central street Fillungo with her
numerous rich shops of history.
Family maintained and operated, the Residence Santa Chiara welcomes
her guests in an atmosphere from the ancient taste, but with the most
modern comforts of which she prepares.
Who Is Elisa Bonaparte?
The Residence Santa Chiara was once the residence of Elisa Bonaparte,
but who is Elisa Bonaparte?
Maria Anna Elisa Bonaparte, Grand Duchess of Tuscany (January 13,
1777 - August 7, 1820) was the fourth surviving child and eldest
surviving daughter of Carlo Buonaparte and Letizia Ramolino.
Elisa was born in Ajaccio, Corsica. She was a younger sister of
Joseph Bonaparte, Napoleon I of France and Lucien Bonaparte. She was an
older sister of Louis Bonaparte, Pauline Bonaparte, Caroline Bonaparte
and Jérôme Bonaparte. Her sharp tongue often caused troubles in her
relations with her brother Napoleon.
She married Pasquale Bacciochi, a member of Corsican nobility, on May
1, 1797. They were parents of four children:
- Felix Napoléon Bacciochi (1798 - 1799).
- Elisa Napoléone Bacciochi (1806 - 1869). She married Philippe,
Comte Camerata-Passioneï de Mazzoleni.
- Jérôme Charles Bacciochi (1810 - 1811).
- Frédéric Napoléon Bacciochi (1813 - 1833).
She was established as a member of the Imperial family of the First
French Empire on May 18, 1804. She received the title of Imperial
Highness. On March 19, 1805, Napoleon named her Duchess of Lucca and
Princess of Piombino.
Her separation from her husband was seen favorably by Napoleon who
named her Grand Duchess of Tuscany on March 3, 1809. The position had
been previously vacant since the abdication of Ferdinand III, Grand Duke
of Tuscany in 1801 and Tuscany had been incorporated to the Kingdom of
Etruria until 1807. Her husband soon rejoined her however.
Elisa remained Duchess of Tuscany until February 1, 1814. Then
Ferdinand III was restored to his throne. She spent the later years of
her life in seclusion and died in Trieste. She was buried in the San
Petronio Basilica of Bologna. She was also the only adult sibling of
Napoleon Bonaparte that did not survive him.
