Welcome... Bienvenue...

La Font Bétou provides 2 beautiful suites and is located in the second sunniest area of France.

This is a very quiet and relaxing place... a place to soothe the soul and enrich the mind. Travellers that enjoy experiencing another culture, history, nature and meeting wonderful people will have the most wonderful time while staying at La Font Bétou.

La Font Bétou is located in "La France Profonde". Loosely translated, this means "deep France", but a more accurate description is "the heartland of France".

The house is in the countryside, with pleasant walks in all directions.

If you feel energetic there are three bicycles you can use and you can play badminton on the grass above the pool if you wish.

Tennis is available one kilometre away in Orignolles. Horse riding is also possible, just three kilometres away.

Laure & Gordon will give you a warm welcome and the door to the kitchen is always open.

We invite you to come experience for yourself, the peace and quiet that La Font Bétou is.

Rooms:

One split level room with a double bed 160 X 200 on the mezzanine and a single bed 80 X 190, sitting area, bathroom with shower & separate lavatory on the ground floor.

Another split level room with twin beds 90 X 190 on the first floor, sitting area, bathroom with shower & separate lavatory on the ground floor.

The sitting room in the house is for everybody's use and there are sun loungers around the swimming pool (12m x 6m), set in the middle of a large garden.

Places To Visit:

Saint Emilion:

A medieval village at the centre of a famous wine region.

Cognac:

Visit the old town centre and the castle of Cognac where Otard still blend and store their cognac facilities.

We are in the centre of wine, cognac and pineau making districts and there are many "châteaux" you can visit to sample the products.

Aubeterre:

Another medieval village not as commercialized as St Emilion, with the largest monolithic church in Europe and an old church that was on the pilgrims route to Saint Jacques de Compostelle.

Blaye:

An old fortress built to defend the entrance to the estuary of the Gironde against the English and other invaders. It still has the old village within its ramparts.

Limoges:

Located only 2 hours away.

Sarlat:

The first French town to be protected against modern development in the sixties is 1½ hours away.

Talmont:

A little further along the Gironde there is Talmont, a Roman chapel also on the pilgrims route to Saint Jacques de Compostelle.

Beaches:

North of Bordeaux:

Beaches north of Bordeaux are sheltered from the force of the open sea and are more suitable for children.

Royan, St Georges de Didonne, La Palmyre and other resorts are about a one hour's drive depending on traffic.

All are safe beaches. Beyond Royan are some huge and excellent beaches. Royan is noted for its sea food.

La Grande Plage is really big. Take a picnic as there is no commercial development. There is a lot of naturism - excellent for an all over tan.

South of Bordeaux:

The coast at Lacanau and Cap Ferret is exposed to the open sea (1½ - 2 hours depending on the traffic in and around Bordeaux).

There is excellent surf but take great care because the under tow is extremely dangerous. Bathe where there are lifeguards for extra safety. On the other hand at Cap Ferret the beach is very long, less dangerous and partially watched.

Dune of Pyla is the largest in Europe, worth seeing but very commercialized.

Directions:

Orignolles is close to the N10 major road and half an hour away from the A10 Paris-Bordeaux motorway, with Paris being 550 km away. We are about 60 km from Bordeaux, Cognac and Angoulême.

Bordeaux-Mérignac airport is 45 minutes away. People coming from England with a car can drive through the tunnel, but it is a long drive and ferries to St Malo, Caen or Bilbao can be much more relaxing with a 4 to 6 hour drive after leaving the Ferry. People travelling with Britanny ferries can ask us for a voucher which will give them 15% discount on the crossing.

If you are coming by car, don't forget to leave some space for the cheap excellent wine you will no doubt wish to take back.
