Welcome to Sunset House (Chambres d'hôtes) in Magnac Laval, a small
market town in the heart of Limousin in southwest France.
You will be able to experience first hand the peace and tranquility of
the Limousin countryside and rural French living at its best!
Ideal for holidays and for people searching for the house of their
dreams. Whether you come on holiday to relax beside our pool, or
sightseeing, you will be welcomed as part of the family.
All the bedrooms are decorated to a high standard with individual
touches and you will enjoy the English hospitality in a typically French
setting, and encouraged to make yourselves at home.
We offer accommodation in the way of four bedrooms, one triple family
bedroom and one king size en-suite bedroom and one four poster double
bedroom, and a family room sleeping four people, all with continental
breakfast.
There is complimentary tea and coffee in the dining room for the
duration of your stay. We offer special discount holidays for House
Hunters and a Property Finding Service (ask for details).
Rooms:
The Sunflower Room:
The Sunflower Room is tastefully decorated in Lemon and sleeps three
people in the double and single bed, it has tea and coffee making
facilities and towels and soap are provided, the room has nice views of
the garden and the pool area.
The Daisy Room:
The Daisy Room is decorated to a high standard, with individual
touches, it has a king size bed and a comfortable sofa, Sky TV and Video
and tea and coffee making facilities are in the room as well as an
en-suite shower-room. The room also has towels and soap provided.
The Lilac Room:
The Lilac Room is pleasantly decorated in purple with a four poster
bed and traditional furniture, tea and coffee facilities are provided as
well as towels and soap, the room overlooks the garden and river to the
front. This room is suitable for couples.
The Delia Room:
The Delia Room is warmly decorated in terracotta and is very spacious
it sleeps four people in the bunk-bed and double bed, it is next door to
the bathroom, tea and coffee facilities and towels and soap are
provided. This room is ideal for a family of four.
The House:
Small Upstairs Sitting Room:
This upstairs seating area has a table and chairs, a dresser with
information leaflets about the area and a comfortable chair and a TV set
with French TV.
The Lounge:
The Lounge is traditionally decorated to a high standard and is very
spacious, there is Sky TV and a DVD player and a lovely log burning
stove for winter vacations, the lounge is exclusively for the use of
guests. Make yourself at home, drinks and snacks can be taken beside the
TV.
The Dining Room:
The traditionally decorated dining room, where the breakfasts and
evening meals are served and you can also enjoy a evening drink around
the large table.
Swimming Pool:
During your holiday you will have full use of our swimming pool and
terrace with sun loungers, to relax in the French sunshine and sip the
local wines and Beers. Enjoy the company of your family and other
guests.
Table d'hôtes:
Evening meals are provided on request, we provide a meal cooked to the
highest quality using fresh ingredients and of exceptional value. We also
provide a wide range of snacks and a children's menu.
All meals are prepared by Ashraf who is a qualified Chef. We also provide
for vegetarians. Please ask for current rates for evening meals and sample
menus.
A wide selection of wines, beers and soft drinks are available upon
request.
We invite you and your family to enjoy our traditional home cooked
three course Sunday Lunch.

A very big BBQ is available for the use of guests on those hot summer

We here at Sunset House specialize in the traditional full English breakfast
using the finest ingredients and English bacon imported from England. A
full English breakfast is provided for a small additional fee.

The Area:
Magnac Laval:
Magnac Laval is a busy market town of three thousand inhabitants, it
is a picturesque town with the church of St Eglise dominating the
skyline, there are all facilities you would need for your holiday there.
Six café bars, two having restaurants and two sell cigarettes and
one is a bookmakers. There is a Eco-marche supermarket, two pharmacies
and several hairdressers and two banks, and a small market on a
Thursday, there is also a post office and several bread shops.
In the summer there are loads of lovely walks around Magnac Laval,
you can get a permit and go fishing in the local river (20 yards) from
Sunset House or the local lake (1 km).
You can hire a bike from us and go for miles, take a picnic and spend
the day on your bikes! You can take a evening stroll and go to one of
the local bars and have an evening drink.
The Surrounding Area:
The department of Haute Vienne has it all!
Lush green rolling countryside, hills and valleys, an abundance of
woodland, wildlife and lakes and rivers which stretch out westwards from
the Massif centrale range of mountains. The climate is one of long hot
summers interspersed with short but sometimes violent thunderstorms, and
short cold winters.
The capital of the Haute-Vienne and also the region of Limousin is
Limoges, the liveliest town, with a cosmopolitan feel to it, packed with
boutiques, bars and restaurants. It is also the home to Limoges
University and porcelain making industry. Limoges has good links to the
rest of France and the UK, with its train station, major road links and
its airport (Ryan Air fly direct to London Stansted).
Bellac:
Bellac is a historic market town that boasts a 12th century church, a
16th century town hall, a museum and viaduct over the river that winds
through the town. There is a good mix of shops, bars and restaurants and
the market is a good place to buy food and wine direct from the locals.
It has a population of a little over 5000 and is close by to the lac de
St Pardoux where numerous water sports and activities can be enjoyed.
Le Dorat:
Le Dorat is an ancient town, with fine examples of Romanesque
architecture, especially the 11th century Collegiate of Saint-Pierre.
There is a small campsite in the town. There is plenty to do all year
round with horse racing events in June, July and August; a national horse
show in September; sound and light show; craft days; Christmas market as
well as concerts, tennis cinema fishing sailing and windsurfing.
Directions:
- We are 9 hours drive from Calais
- ½ hour from Limoges Airport. Flights daily from London Stansted.
- 1 hour from Poitiers Airport. Flights twice daily from London
Stansted.
- Trains run hourly to Paris (and are very cheap) from La Dorat (7 kms
away from Sunset House) which link at Poitiers to Eurostar that goes
straight to the UK.
