About The Loire Valley:
The Loire is the longest river in France. The river flows north then
west for 635 miles from its source in the center of the country to
Atlantic.
Although the river may travel a very long distance, the part of the
river that is most famous is from Angers to Orleans, a distance of 150
miles. Throughout French history, this was the favorite home of the
French nobility. As a result, the nobles built their feudal fortress to
protect themselves in an age of constant war. Once there was no threat
from war, the nobles then spent their time and money building their
"pleasure palaces".
It is here, in the Loire Valley that you shall find fairytale
castles. The charm of the castles will cast a spell over you. The eye
catching architecture, fabulous art and gorgeous furnishings combine
with history to create a lavish lifestyle for the inhabitants of the
chateaux. People travel to and live in the Loire Valley for its natural
beauty, charm, history, gentle landscape, greenery and of course, for
the river itself.
The magnificent Loire Valley has now been listed by UNESCO in its
World Heritage.
The history of the Loire Valley is written in its architecture. For
centuries the halls, turrets, and gardens of a thousand châteaux have
been the setting for romance, politics, and intrigue.
Some of the most famous and best known châteaux are Chambord,
Chenonceau, Blois, and Villandry, but one should not ignore or forget
about the smaller or lesser known places like Chaumont-sur-Loire, Talcy,
Château de Beauregard, Château de Chamerolles.
For the romantics, if you visit Ussé then you will find the
inspiration for the castle of Sleeping Beauty.
The Loire Valley produces 22 fine wines, including Bourgueil,
Sancerre, Valençay, Vouvray, Montlouis, and Menetou-Salon. Among the
region's excellent cheeses are Crottin de Chavignol, Selles-sur-Cher,
and Sainte-Maure de Touraine.
About Centre - Val de Loire:
This region of France is named "Centre" because it is in
the center of France.
This remarkable part of France is famous, as you already know, for
the legendary Loire Valley.
This part of France is easily accessible to you if arriving from
Paris. You can arrive in Centre by high speed train or by taking one of
the many motorways if travelling by car. From Paris to Tours, it is only
about 55 minutes. Our location at Château de la Brosse is very close
to Tours allowing you the opportunity to take advantage of this
magnificent area easily.
Regardless of when you visit this region of France, you are sure
to see something beautiful. From early spring to late autumn, natural
splendors abound in the valleys of the Loire and its eastern
tributaries, the rivers Indre, Cher, Beuvron, Sauldre, and Allier.
Two of France's great cathedrals make their home in Centre at Bourges
and Chartres. In the cathedrals you will find some of the best examples
of stained glass in France, fashioned by the same master craftsmen who
later constructed the magnificent windows of King Louis IX's Sainte-Chapelle
in Paris.
The region of Centre - Val de Loire is separated into five
departments which are:
- Cher
- Indre
- Loiret
- Eure-et-Loire
- Indre-et-Loire
At Château de la Brosse, we are located in the Indre-et-Loire
department which is on the western side of Centre and next door to the
regions of Pays de la Loire and Poitou-Charentes.
