Breakfast:
Breakfast can be served in the dining room where the
imposing iglenook fireplace and the large 18th century
Cheshire Dresser complete with clock, often become the talking point or
guests can breakfast in our fabulous new 30' conservatory overlooking
the garden & wonderful views beyond.
Breakfast includes a whole host of scrummy things. Choose
from at least 7 cereals, yoghurts, toast, fruit juice, plums in season
fresh from our orchards, including home-made preserves, as well as eggs
from our own hens.
On a recent Automobile Association (AA) inspection, we
received an accolade for Martin’s mother, Eve Bent, our marmalade
maker. The inspector wrote that it was the best marmalade he had ever
tasted!! At 82 years of age, we are very proud of Eve’s contribution.
The traditionally cooked English breakfast is available
for those with healthy appetites, and we also cater for vegetarians
& other dietary requirements.
Rooms:
Steeple View:
Double or twin ensuite room with luxury bath/shower,
toilet, washbasin and illuminated mirrored bathroom cabinet containing
shaver point. Recently refurbished, this room commands fabulous views
overlooking the garden and onto open fields and orchards and hills
beyond, including Broadway Tower and Saintbury Church. Why not enjoy
that early morning cup of tea in bed just gazing at the view?
Green Room:
This room is our family room with double bed and
adequate room for children’s beds too. This is the 17th
century wing of the house with the original elm doors still in place.
Decoration is modern with antique pine furniture. Views look onto
hedgerows and open fields beyond.
Blue Room:
The cosiest room in the house with low ceiling and
stripped elm panelling and doors. Views are over hedgerows and open
farmland with lovely scent wafting into the room from the roses
outside the windows during summer. This room neighbours Green Room
making it ideal for family/groups who are looking for proximity. This
room can be approached by either the 17th century wing
staircase or through the main Victorian part of the house. This
bedroom also has its own washbasin.
About Bowers Hill Farm:
Bowers Hill is a large secluded Victorian farmhouse set
within 80 acres of a mixed working farm.
This period property with flagstone floors, bread oven,
beamed ceilings and walls exudes a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere
which our guests really appreciate at the end of the day, away from all
the busy tourist spots and some distance from civilization.
As you travel along the ½ mile-long drive to the farm,
through the mature lime trees, you will see animals grazing on either
side of the approach. If your visit coincides with the trees bearing
their fruit in mid-summer, the hum of hundreds of bees collecting nectar
will amaze you and confirm your choice of stay in the Cotswolds.
If you are lucky you may see the green woodpecker but
you had better be quick, or you could even catch a glimpse of a fox or
badger as evening draws to a close. Look around you, the Cotswold hills,
Meon hill and Bredon hill make up the surrounding panorama.
Abbey, the German shepherd dog will greet you as you
arrive and lead you to the door where her bark will already have
announced your arrival.
Hopefully, the tea is brewing by now and you will
receive a warm and friendly welcome from hosts Martin and Sarah Bent.
Martin has lived at Bowers Hill Farm all his life and
cannot imagine ever living in another place. Meanwhile, Abbey will be
waiting outside patiently for your return in the hope that you will
throw the stick she has just found for you.
Relaxation:
The patio leading onto the large garden is available for
all guests to use and what better way to unwind after a busy day, than
to sit relaxing in the garden (weather permitting of course).
Listen to nature right on the doorstep with cattle
chewing the cud, sheep bleating and birds still busy singing. As evening
draws in, there is also a guest lounge available.
If you prefer not to watch television, there is a wide
selection of reading material with plenty of maps, tourist leaflets and
details on where to walk/stroll or ramble in the Cotswolds.
Farm Tours:
If you are prepared with the right footwear, farm walks
are available and Martin will give you a personal tour upon request to
view crops and animals and talk about UK agriculture. If you prefer to
go it alone, we will give you a map of the farm and point you in the
appropriate direction.
A Guest Comment:
Our guests say such nice things about Bowers Hill Farm
– here are a few excerpts:
"cosy, clean and comfortable rooms; lovely
antiques, flag stone floors, beamed ceilings; sumptuous breakfasts (log
fires to greet you in the cooler months), fresh farm eggs and home-made
preserves; a beautiful secluded spot with nature right on the doorstep
with so many birds, animals and wildlife.
