Storrs Guest House is a delightful, English Tourism Council 4 Diamond, 19th Century, quality country guest house set in secluded gardens.

We are only minutes from Lake Windermere, in the heart of the Lake District National Park, where you are encouraged to relax and enjoy warm, friendly hospitality, all year round.

Since we are a family run establishment, we are able to offer you personal service that is appropriate for the high level of comfort found here for your enjoyment.

Throughout the house, you will find many original features, exquisite hand-sewn furnishings, pictures and china collections - all creating an ambience of olde-worlde charm.

The warmth of our entrance hall will enchant you - the warmth of our welcome will leave you in no doubt that your comfort and care is essential to us throughout your stay.

For your enjoyment, we feature real log fires in winter.

For your convenience, we provide ample parking and we are exclusively non-smoking. We are open Christmas and New Year as well.

Explore Our Area:

The Hawkshead Ferry is a "stones-throw" from our doorstep, affording easy access to the far side of Lake Windermere and giving opportunity to explore areas such as Coniston Water, Tarn Hows and Grizedale Forest to name but a few.

From our location, a leisurely 15-minute stroll will take you round the edge of the lake into the village of Bowness-on-Windermere from where you can sail on Lake Windermere, or just enjoy the shops, restaurants and breathtaking views.

Follow the footsteps of William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, and John Ruskin. Explore stately homes and gardens, mountain fells, forests, waterfalls and lakes, or simply take in our clean fresh air, relax and unwind.

We are ideally situated for touring the Lake District and are a perfect journey break travelling to or from Scotland.

Rooms:

All rooms have en-suite/private facilities, colour TV, clock/radio alarms, hairdryers and beverage making facilities.

All our double rooms are King-sized, and one features a lovely four poster bed. All rooms overlook our gardens.

Why not treat yourselves for that special occasion, we can arrange flowers, chocolates or champagne on request.

Breakfast:

We offer you excellent home cooking using local and home grown produce.

Hearty breakfasts feature our home made jams and marmalades, free-range eggs, Cumberland sausage. In addition, our breakfast includes fruit juice, cereals, grapefruit or yoghurt.

You have a choice of having a traditional full English breakfast with bacon, fried egg, Cumberland sausage, mushrooms & tomato. You may also choose to have a continental breakfast or eggs. You can choose how you want your eggs... from poached eggs on toast, to scrambled eggs on toast or boiled eggs with toast.

Evening Meal:

After a day's touring or walking, why not come home to our freshly prepared four-course evening dinner, and choose a bottle or a glass from our select, but reasonably priced wine list?

We pride ourselves on our excellent home-cooked fayre. Sample menus with brochure on request.

Four-course evening meal is by advance booking and is traditionally cooked, with home made pâtés, soups and puddings with regional specialties. Vegetarians can also be catered for.

History:

Our character filled building was created by a distinctive Lakeland 19th century architect. Built as the Northern Gate House to the original Manor House. During the 1950's Storrs Gate House was the home of the Waddington family, founders of Waddington's Games - notably Monopoly.

Our Gardens:

Our gardens are here for your enjoyment. Take a stroll around our pathways and borders. Relax with a book or a pre-dinner drink. Enjoy the variety of birds and wildlife, the occasional squirrel, rabbit, even deer. Sit in tranquil peace and watch the sunset behind the trees across the lake.

Satisfied Guests Say:

"Eat out and miss out"

"Very comfortable, food fabulous - we will recommend!"

"The best bed and breakfast we have stayed in on our travels in Britain."
