A lovely, custom home built specifically to host the
weary, traveller with your comfort in mind.
Your host family have strong Maritime connections as well
as to the earliest settlers to the region known as the United Empire
Loyalists.
Ben Brae-on-the-Park is situated on mature, third acre vista complete
with wild life and features three tastefully, appointed
guest rooms all with private bathrooms. We offer a smoke free, air
conditioned environment and are adult oriented.
The front of the home has most recently been turned into a
woodland garden setting complete with bubbling fountain and a bull frog
yet to be named.
We're pleased that Ben Brae-on-the-Park is featured on the Chamber of
Commerce Bed and Breakfast House Tour recommended by leading wineries and
the premier hotels.
About Your Innkeepers:
David and Lynda both have business backgrounds and know
what their guests appreciate in comfort and ambience. They will make an
effort to offer guests a warm welcome and share hints about dining and
local attractions to help maximize your stay.
Lynda and David have lived in Niagara-on-the-Lake since 1995 and have fully adapted themselves into the community both
belonging and starting a variety of groups. It is a great place to live
and vacation and offers a wide range of things to do covering a vast array
of interests.
Your hosts have historical connections to the town itself,
with Lynda's family amongst the original settlers to the region. There is
at least one street name connected with the family. Her ancestor, Stone
Wall (Thomas) Jackson of the American Civil War years has been featured in
the artwork shown at Fort George during special battle re-enactments.
Lynda's ancestor's home, Battlefield House, may be toured
June, July and August in Stoney Creek, Ontario. It is clearly marked by
road signs on the way to Toronto and is well worth the visit for history
or antique buffs. Both Lynda and David's rich connection to the Maritimes
help bid you a hearty Ciad-Mile-Failte (A Hundred Thousand Welcomes).
Lynda's Mother's Side:
Lynda's mom's uncle, L. D. Jackson - former mayor of
Hamilton. They named a shopping centre after him - L. D. Jackson Square
in Hamilton.
Lynda's Father's Side:
The first Scottish children were born in Nova Scotia.
There is a historical monument called a Karin dedicated to the first
settlers who arrived in Nova Scotia on a ship called the Hector. Family
here and from Scotland were present for the dedication by Princess
Alexandria during a special ceremony. Aunt Elizabeth Grant designed and
wove the Cape Breton tartan which is popular in Nova Scotia along with
the Nova Scotia tartan.
Rooms:
All rooms are tastefully appointed and offer you comfort
along with a complimentary breakfast. We prefer a two-night booking during
weekends from June until mid-September, our high-season.
Chablis Room:
A delightful ensuite with sitting area. The room is
complimented by a gas fireplace, a queen sized four poster bed, large
walk in closet. The ensuite bathroom features a Jacuzzi whirlpool tub,
and shower. Elegant decor including books radio, and a private
telephone.
Burgundy Room:
A graciously appointed room furnished with a queen sized
brass bed, sitting area with small library, and tastefully decorated.
The windows overlook ¼ acre of mature trees, and the back patio. The
adjacent private bathroom is large and luxurious.
Trius Room:
This is a cozy room featuring a double bed, nine foot
ceilings, and a bay window overlooking the patio. Private ensuite
bathroom with shower toilet and sink. Situated across the hall from the
guest lounge.
Common Areas:
Patio and Deck:
In the warmer months enjoy our large, patio and deck
overlooking a mature, third acre vista complete with wild life and
adjacent pond. Lynda calls it "La Corridor" because of the
abundant birds swooping amongst the Spruce trees that fringe the
property. It is not unusual to enjoy a 'Disney moment' at bird feeder
while the squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits along with their feathered
friends enjoy the seeds from the feeder.
Sitting Area:
Our visitors enjoy the use of our guest sitting area at
their leisure. It is a comfortable, elegantly furnished room, where one
can relax after a busy day.
Breakfast:
Your day at Ben Brae-on-the-Park begins with our enticing candle-lit
Canadian style breakfasts. Home-cooked, using the freshest local
ingredients.
The breakfasts that are served are tasty and varied, and
often accompanied by the background noise of the fountain and pond.
Freshly brewed coffee and tea, juice, followed by hot croissants, home
baking, fresh seasonal fruits and a hot entree will help you start your
day. 'Tis, truly 'tis the best meal of the day.
David and Lynda will often join you after breakfast with a
coffee and have shared many wonderful breakfast moments. You'll
comfortably linger over great conversations, sharing your Niagara travel
experiences with others, or just taking a welcome start to a perfect day.
