The Old Farm B and B is a 3 story heritage home on the
waterside at Cowichan Bay.
The house overlooks an estuary formed by two rivers
flowing into the ocean on the eastern side of Vancouver Island.
The 2 acre property (originally 5 acres) was developed
in 1908 for a retired English sea captain and has always been a
landmark.
The rooms are spacious, with high ceilings and generous
windows. All guestrooms are fully ensuite, carefully restored and
furnished in Laura Ashley motif.
The Country Garden:
The country garden is a collection of evergreen and
fruit trees, shrubbery, flowers and berry bushes. Guests meet in the
gazebo or stretch out on chaises, play badminton or pitch horseshoes, or
bask in the garden hot tub.
The country garden is a collection of evergreen and
fruit trees, shrubbery, flowers, berry bushes and vegetable gardens.
Guests meet in the gazebo or stretch out on the chaises, play badminton,
pitch horseshoes or wander down to our old dock and watch the tide come
and go or bask in our spa under the garden trees.
Location:
Our heritage home sits at the edge of Cowichan Bay on
Vancouver Island, an easy 40 minute drive north of Victoria, British
Columbia. Excellent golf, fishing and restaurants are conveniently
close.
The large property slopes to the water and looks across
an estuary formed by the Cowichan and Koksilah Rivers. This wide estuary
is a bird sanctuary and the two rivers flow gently into the deep tidal
water of Cowichan Bay.
The nearby fishing village of Cowichan Bay is among
Vancouver Island's most charming communities, with a variety of
restaurants, boutiques and water sport opportunities.
Two 18-hole public golf courses are within 10 minutes.
Tee-off times can be arranged and inclusive Old Farm golf packages are
available.
The urban convenience world can be found four miles away
in the small city of Duncan. A pleasant surprise for many guests is the
presence of a thriving young wine industry. Local production has been
winning international approval and several wineries welcome visitors to
tour and taste.
History:
The Old Farm is a traditional 3 storey country home
designed by illustrious west coast architect Samuel Maclure, a member of
the architectural team that produced Victoria's famous Empress Hotel.
It was commissioned by William Tooker, a retired English sea captain who
took possession in 1908.
Rooms:
Both of the large rooms in the main house are fully en
suite and have been carefully restored and furnished in Laura Ashley
motif.
All suites have a view of the water. A separate unit
nearby contains a modern suite with bath Jacuzzi and kitchenette.
Relaxation:
Guests are welcome to relax in the main house lounge and
enjoy the fireplace, television and VCR, or curl up in the reading room
with a selection from our contemporary library.
Breakfast:
Breakfast is an "event".
Wake-up coffee or tea is delivered to the rooms at times
designated by our guests. Then, every morning at a big table, it's
freshly squeezed orange juice, hot bread and muffins, with jams produced
from the property's crop of fruit and berries.
Free-range eggs are provided by a nearby farmer and
guests are pampered with gourmet entrees served with fine dinnerware,
linens and silver settings.
We are pleased to cater to special dietary needs.
