Located on the southeastern edge of downtown Vancouver
in a safe, quiet and elegant neighborhood, the Manor Guest House is a
turn-of-the-century heritage mansion that has been lovingly restored and
converted to a gracious and comfortable bed and breakfast.
The house retains all the old charm you would expect of
a house of this vintage; ten foot ceilings, huge rooms, wainscotting,
hardwood floors, carved banisters, spacious hallways, and more, while
providing all the modern conveniences you would expect.
We are a block and a half from public transportation,
the bus to Victoria, and all amenities, including some of the best
restaurants in Vancouver, and excellent shopping.
Enjoy the ambiance of spacious, bright rooms with
original hardwood floors covered with beautiful Persian carpets, English
antiques, and tasteful artwork.
Rooms:
For your comfort we have custom made beds. Relax on our
back deck and enjoy our beautiful English gardens, or if you choose to
be indoors, we have a guest lounge with overstuffed sofas and an
eclectic library, as well as a wonderful old piano.
The Manor was built in 1902. It is a true Edwardian
heritage house, consisting of nine bedrooms, five with private baths,
and four with shared bath. In addition there is a self-contained
penthouse suite with its own kitchen, bathroom, loft, and a deck and a
glass wall which allows a truly spectacular view of the city.
Breakfast:
Indulge in our four course breakfasts, served buffet
style. We are pleased to cater to people with special dietary needs.
A sample breakfast menu may consist of:
- Orange Juice
- Cheese Platter
- Tea and Coffee
- Fresh Fruit Salad
- Blueberry Cobbler
- Vegetable Soufflé
- Assorted Breads (Cheese, Whole Wheat, Sourdough)
We Provide:
We offer free off-street parking, free internet access,
and free local phone calls, as well as a full kitchen for the exclusive
use of guests.
We are happy to advise you on how best to spend your
time in Vancouver, either before you get here or when you arrive.
At the Manor Guest House you will find that personal
service and attention to detail are not lost arts.
Kitchen:
In addition to the main kitchen where guests have their
breakfast, there is also a smaller kitchen for the guests' use. Here you
can chill wine, or make a cup of tea, or a late night snack.
Parlour:
You are also invited to enjoy our charming parlour and
adjoining music room where there is a wonderful old piano, as well as
the big landscaped decks and garden off the kitchen.
Manor Suite:
The Manor Guest House also operates the Manor Suites
just five blocks away on 18th avenue, in the same elegant centrally
located neighourhood.
Designed for longer term stays, the Manor Suites have
both a one bedroom and a two bedroom suite. Both suites have king or
twin beds in the bedrooms, as well as having pullout beds in the living
rooms with cable TV and telephones.
Beautifully furnished with English antiques and painted
in period colour, the Manor Suites are a comfortable and inviting home
away from home.
Business:
For guests who are in Vancouver on business, we have
three phone lines and a fax line. We also have ample off-street parking.
What To Do:
There is so much to do and see in Vancouver from nature
to culture to restaurants and shopping, that we recommend you spend a
minimum of 3 days. Here are some sample activities to maximize your
enjoyment of those 3 days.
Day One:
Visit Vancouver's Chinatown, the second largest in
North America. See the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Gardens, the only classical
Chinese gardens outside of China. Visit Gastown, the original
waterfront area of Vancouver. Explore the unique architecture,
cobblestone streets, and the famous steam clock. Check out the
excellent shops that specialize in native arts and crafts.
Walk along Robson Street, Vancouver's answer to Rodeo
Drive. Spend money. Visit Stanley Park, the largest urban park in
North America. See the world class Aquarium, and the outdoor whale
show. Explore the six mile (10km) Seawall. Rent a bicycle or in-line
skates, walk it or jog it. (The Seawall is not hilly.) See the totem
poles and swoon over the view from Prospect Point.
Have dinner at the Fish House in Stanley Park, one of
Vancouver's finest fish and seafood restaurants.
Day Two:
Go on a 4 hour kayaking trip with Lotusland Tours
(free pick-up from the Manor). See where the Rainforest meets the
ocean and enjoy a salmon barbecue on a remote island.
Experience the colourful indoor market on Granville
island - a feast for the senses. See the excellent craft shops,
featuring the work of local artists.
Have dinner on the patio at Bridge's. See a
Shakespearian play at Bard on the Beach.
Day Three:
Visit Queen Elizabeth Park and see the magnificent
landscaped gardens and McMillan-Bloedel Conservatory of rare plants
and exotic birds.
See the extensive gardens at the Van Dusen Botanical
Gardens and try to find your way out of the Elizabethan labyrinth.
Visit the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia
to view the spectacular collections of West Coast Native art.
Visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge. At 450 feet it's
the longest suspension bridge in the world, overlooking a magnificent
canyon. Cross it if you dare. Walk through and admire the impressive
living forest exhibit. Visit Grouse Mountain and ride the famous
Skyride to this 3700 ft. (1300 meter) high mountain playground.
Enjoy a sweeping view of Vancouver and environs. Have
dinner at the restaurant.
Resolve to come back to Vancouver soon because you've
only skimmed the surface.
