Guestrooms:
The Carousel Suite is our "honeymoon suite"
which is described as "irresistible" in the romantic travel
guide, Best Places to Kiss in the Northwest.
An enormous guestroom with a great gas-fired antique
slate fireplace, it boasts a fabulous antique, king-size, four-poster,
iron-and-brass canopy-bed and is uniquely decorated with wooden carousel
animals, a collection of fancy antique gramophones, and an incredible
10' tall antique gas pump.
It has a wooden floor with Persian carpets, lots of
natural wooden-moldings, and cathedral pine-wood ceiling with dual
Casablanca ceiling fans. Its northward view of the Vancouver City
skyline and the lights of the Lions Gate Bridge is framed by large birch
trees and the backdrop of our spectacular Grouse Mountain.
The Carousel Suite's huge ensuite bathroom, which
"Best Places to Kiss" calls "sexy", has an amusing
mermaid theme (try to count them) with a large antique lollipop
weigh-scale, stained glass windows and cathedral ceiling with skylight.
Fixtures include two matching antique pedestal sinks, bidet, toilet,
tiled stand-alone shower, and a jetted single-person therapeutic tub.
All guestrooms are tastefully furnished with antique
decor and queen-or-larger antique beds with quality comfortable
mattresses and hand stitched quilts. All rooms have wooden or tiled
floors, oriental carpets, Casablanca ceiling fans, guest
extension-phones, fax modem outlets, clock radios, robes, magazines, and
writing desks. Other features may include fireplaces, views, cathedral
ceilings, sofas and TVs.
Bathrooms have fun themes such as mythical - mermaid,
antique barber-shop or outrageous flamingo, and all have a shower or
shower/tub combination, tiled floors, and antique wood-framed mirrors.
Upstairs bathrooms have cathedral ceilings and skylights. Soaps,
shampoos, hair dryers, and other often-forgotten toiletries are
available in all bathrooms.
In your room you will find a helpful "Johnson House
Guest-Guide" that you may take with you while you are visiting our
fair city. It includes maps, narrative directions to all major
attractions and day trips to outlying "must sees". There is an
extensive restaurant list with walking map to local restaurants and
shops.
Also in your room is a "Georgia Straight"
weekly newspaper which lists all the current happenings in Vancouver,
including live events, club performers, music concerts, plays, traveling
exhibits, museums, etc. We also have a large brochure rack with lots of
guide books and brochure information to assist you in your activity and
vacation planning.
Breakfast:
"Absolutely-Fabulous" leisurely breakfasts are
served over the period of 8:15 to 9:30 AM in our bright airy dining room
where you can chat to, and share your travel tales with, a great mixture
of international guests.
With lots of detailed woodwork and moldings this formal
dining room's classic craftsman-style character is complemented by novel
antiques such as a 1904 American-made wooden carousel horse, an 1870's
six-foot high cast-iron coffee grinder, and an 1896 Regina music box.
The antique furniture includes a carved sideboard and large oak table
with press-back chairs.
Relax over another cup of coffee while you enjoy the
summer's sunlight upon our rhododendron and flower gardens through our
large cottage-windows.
After a good night's sleep on extra-comfy beds you'll be
ready for a hearty breakfast which includes both, good company and:
- a daily entree which may be:
- whole-wheat oatmeal pancakes, apple or cornmeal
pancakes (Aunt Jemima wants these recipes)
- special egg dishes
- extra-thick French toast with real maple syrup
or local fruit syrups
- either sausage, ham or bacon
- homemade muffins and jams, scones or fresh-baked
croissants
- cold cereals
- fresh fruit or fruit crisps and yogurt
- fruit juice
- choice of hot beverages including quality Canadian
coffee
Anyone want three eggs or more?
No one goes away hungry. The unknowing prize-winner to
date was a newly-wed fellow who consumed 27 pancakes before leaving the
table for a breather, or whatever else he had in mind.
In the afternoon complimentary tea, herbal tea and
cookies are available as self-service.
