Cobble House Bed & Breakfast is nestled among the trees on a forested acreage with a creek.

Bolton and his sister Simone, form our canine welcoming committee and will meet you as you come up the drive.

Located just 45 minutes north of Victoria on Vancouver Island, this is the perfect location from which to explore the southern Island in different directions. It is also Vancouver Island's Wine Country, with several small farm wineries and a cidery for you to visit.

Cobble House offers 3 very spacious guestrooms, all with private baths and sitting areas. The Hummingbird has a Jacuzzi as well as a shower, while the Heron offers a double futon in addition to the queen bed to make it our preferred family accommodation. Our third room is the Jay, and it has 2 twin size antique beds or a king bed.

Guests are welcome in the main living area of the house and in summer can relax with a cup of tea on our flower-filled deck.

Dutch and German are spoken here. By prior arrangement we offer gourmet dinners, as your host Simon is a European-trained former Executive Chef.

Above all, we offer Canada-Select 4-star accommodation in a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. Welcome!

Rooms:

The Hummingbird Room:

Our Hummingbird Room features a queen brass bed, a wicker sitting area, plants and some small antiques- the wallpaper behind the bed is really decorative painting! The spacious bathroom has a Jacuzzi and shower.

The Jay Room:

Our Jay Room now has 2 antique twin-sized beds or a king bed and a wicker sitting area in the bay window. The Jay room is named after British Columbia's official bird, the Stellar's Jay. The private ensuite bathroom in the the Jay has a shower.

The Heron Room:

Our Heron Room features a queen sleigh bed, as well as a futon, which folds down into a double bed, so this room can accommodate 4. Antique oak chairs and Heron pictures complete the decor. The private bathroom has a shower.

Breakfast and Dinner:

At Cobble House we offer a full breakfast every morning with a selection of coffees, teas, juices, fresh fruit, homemade muffins, scones and bread as well as jams, and a hot entree - always geared to our guests' preference and dietary restrictions.

Your host, Simon, is an excellent chef!

Activities:

The South Cowichan region is an area of rolling hills, farms, forests, lakes and ocean. It offers a wide variety of outdoor activities such as golf, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, boating and fishing, horseback riding and bird watching.

Let us assist you in making that reservation for a tee off time at either Arbutus Ridge or Cowichan Golf & Country Club. Rent a kayak in Cowichan Bay or Maple Bay, and go out on your own or as part of a guided group. Take a sailing cruise or a motored cruise out of Cowichan Bay or Mill Bay. Swim in Shawnigan Lake or out at Bamberton Provincial Park. Hike up Cobble Hill Mountain or along the Cowichan River Footpath.

Vancouver Island also has the highest concentration of artisans in Canada. Visit painters, potters, sculptors and other craftsmen.

There are lots of possibilities!

Attractions and Sightseeing:

Cobble House Bed & Breakfast is the perfect location from which to explore Southern Vancouver Island!

The South Cowichan is Vancouver Island's Wine Country with 7 wineries and a cidery in the area. Spend a day cycling or driving our country roads and visiting the wineries, the cheese farm and other specialty farms.

Less than an hour south of us is Victoria, B.C.'s capital city, with its inner harbor and Fairmont Empress Hotel and the Parliament Buildings. A must see is the Royal British Columbia Museum, and the world famous Butchart Gardens. Go whale watching from the inner harbor area. The drive to Victoria is along the spectacular Malahat Drive.

Go north and visit the town of Duncan, with its Native Cultural and Conference Centre, showcasing the culture of the original native inhabitants, the Cowichan tribe, and the B.C. Forest Discovery Centre - forestry is traditionally British Columbia's main industry.

Go a little further north and visit the town of Chemainus, famous for its outdoor murals, and home to a popular small theatre. In Crofton you can tour the pulp mill in summer time and take a short ferry trip to Saltspring Island, the largest of the Gulf Islands, which are located between mainland B.C. and Vancouver Island. Travel to Lake Cowichan and take the logging road to Port Renfrew to visit the Botanical Beach there and get a taste of the West Coast.

Let us assist you with information and advice to make the most of your visit to the Island and to Cobble House!

Or just relax with a good book somewhere and enjoy the peaceful surroundings!

Directions:

Cobble House Bed & Breakfast is located just 45 minutes north of Victoria, on beautiful Vancouver Island.

Along with Cobble Hill, the rural communities of Shawnigan Lake, Mill Bay, Malahat, Cowichan Station and Cowichan Bay, make up the area known as the South Cowichan, Gateway to the Warm Land.

Victoria, B.C.'s capital, is the main access point to the Island for ferries from mainland B.C., as well as from Washington State (Port Angeles, Anacortes, Seattle).

Cobble House is located halfway between the Victoria ferry terminal and the ferry terminals to the North in Nanaimo.

Cobble House Bed & Breakfast is the perfect location from which to explore Southern Vancouver Island!

Directions From Victoria:

  • Follow Highway 1, the Trans-Canada Highway, north from Victoria (note: Douglas Street becomes Highway 1).
  • You will go over a small mountain pass called "the Malahat Drive".
  • Once you have come down from the Malahat Drive and have passed the signs for "Bamberton Provincial Park" and "Mill Bay Road/Brentwood Bay Ferry" turn left off the highway at the 4th traffic light, onto Shawnigan-Mill Bay Road.
  • Follow this road for a couple of kilometers and watch for the blue & white "bed and breakfast" sign on the right side of the road.
  • Just after you see this sign, turn right onto our road, Cameron-Taggart, and follow it until you see another blue & white "bed and breakfast" sign and then our own sign, again on your right.

Directions From Nanaimo:

  • Follow Highway 1 south from Nanaimo.
  • Once you have left Duncan over the "Silver" Bridge, travel about 10 kilometer (about 6.2 miles) and watch for the Valley View Shopping Centre on the left side of the highway.
  • At the following traffic light, turn right onto Cobble Hill Road.
  • Follow it past the village of Cobble Hill and towards Shawnigan Lake.
  • About 1 kilometer past the village, watch for a blue and white "bed and breakfast", indicating a left turn onto our road, Cameron-Taggart.
  • Once you have gone over the small white bridge on Cameron-Taggart, you will see a blue and white "bed and breakfast" sign on your right, just before you see the Cobble House sign on your left.
